Drab, dreary, gray, overcast, wet, and rainy. A Very Mondayish Friday. But at least it is relatively warm. 50F. So, the US is back on the moon. Robotically, at least. Odysseus landed near the moon's south pole yesterday. The first American landing on the moon since 1972 and the first commercial landing ever. It is my understanding that the mission is to scope out real estate for a possible housing development. Kidding of course. However, a future permanent human presence on the moon is part of the reason behind this mission. When I was a wee lad, in the days before Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, I had a kid's book that imagined we'd have people, families, living and working on the moon long before now. Had the Apollo missions been more scientifically and less politically motivated, perhaps there would be such Lunar settlements. If you had the opportunity, would you consider being a Lunar colonist?

When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut. When I got older and found out more about the cramped conditions etc - no thank you.

I dreamed of being an astronaut for a while. Then, at age 9, I started wearing glasses. At that time, you couldn't be an astronaut if you needed glasses.

@Fleura I think they are more lenient once you're already in the military, but it needed to be 20/20 when you joined.

@DWDavis Has that changed? I too thought you needed perfect vision to be a test pilot (which is the route most astronauts followed)

No way. I prefer Earth. Did I hear correctly that the Odysseus fell over after landing? Have a good weekend.

The report I saw said it was moving too fast and may have snapped a leg. They believe it is either propped on a rock or lying on its side and some of the antennas are blocked.

I don't think any of us will be passengers to the Moon. But it's a nice thought.

My oldest son, the AF Test Pilot, is applying for astronaut training. He wants to be on the first manned mission to Mars. He'll jump at the chance to spend some time on the moon.

I think I’ll pass. I love to see new places, but I’m content with the planet Earth.

I heard we sent one up again. I have no interest in moving there.
