February Borders on Spring

I took this lovely photo of the sun setting on the Halifax River from my apartment window. Except for the cawing of two crows exchanging words, I have not heard songbirds twittering. My cats keep hoping sitting by the window. If you remember I posted a photo of Freddie with his paws and claws against the window screen. As he sat there hoping to see and hear more birds he looked like he said something to his sister Tish. Next thing I knew I was a witness to the fact that cats do communicate with each other and she too had her paws and claws stretched out against the screen. Unfortunately, no birds appeared. I know many of you are waiting for spring and so I leave you with this poem I wrote while I was still living in Latvia. Sometimes our snows did not melt away until almost April. When Will It Be Spring? Ice flowers on my window Cold winds whipping about Soon I think Wolves will begin to howl When will it be spring? Frozen days When nature stands statue still Cold hands, cold feet, cold heart When will it be spring? Haven’t heard a bird sing The sun shines through a frozen haze Sad days, cold days When will it be spring? Then suddenly the snow melts away, I see two birds greeting one another, gently, softly they coo – spring, at last, spring is here. Let us hope that it happens soon. For those of you who are soon heading into autumn, I hope you have a warm and colorful one.
