I was so glad to be able to visit with my dad yesterday before he goes in for his bypass surgery today. He left this morning around 5am for his 530am appointment. They say the surgery takes about 4-6 hours and I am sure we will have to wait a while when he wakes up to be able to visit a bit.
But he was in really good spirits.
I might have tried to see him one last time before he left for the hospital (my hotel room is across the hall from his), but I didn't want to be in the way as he was gathering all his stuff, and right now he has to take things slow. He gets angina attacks easily being 99% blocked.
But he did send my sister and I a text message this morning. In it he said, "Just wanted to let you know you two have been the greatest achievement of my life. If I hurt you in the past, I am truly sorry. Live long, be happy and most of all keep the sense of humor I have shown you. See you later, this will come out just fine!"
I fully expect the surgery to go well, and thanks for all the support of my myLot friends through this.

What kind of bypass is it? My dad had either a triple or a quadruple.
When I started reading the text from your dad it seemed at first like he thought he wasn’t going to make it. I was relieved at the end. Hope the surgery goes well!

I posted an update. Things went well. Still lots of recovery time for him, but he will get through it. He was in good spirits despite the obvious situation being less than comfortable at the moment. "The pain might suck, but it means you're alive."

That was very sweet of your father to send the text. Praying that he comes through the surgery with flying colors.

@MarieCoyle He has more spunk than I might have otherwise known. He's really taking this well and taking the bull by the horns. I am really proud of him. I will be going back in to visit a bit tomorrow and then heading home. But there will be lots of phone calls and maybe a trip our two where he lives in the next month or two.

I know it will be a hard and tough recovery for him. I'm sure you will be back and forth checking on him and cheering him on.
Hey, it's OK to tear up sometimes. I'm glad he made it, and that you still have your Dad, and he obviously still has his spunk!!
