2/28/24 - Update on My Husband

We arrived at the hospital at 7 am yesterday. Surgery was scheduled for 7:30 am. The various doctors came in to talk with me and assured me that my husband was ready for surgery.
At 8 am one of the doctors came in to tell me that the surgery was aborted in the OR when my husband's blood pressure dropped and his heart rate increased. He was sent to the ICU where they shocked his heart to bring it back into rhythm. When we went to see him, he was a myriad of wires and had a breathing tube down his throat.
When they stopped sedation, poor hubby wanted that breathing tube OUT. They told me that they were going to transfer him to Cleveland Clinic and do the surgery there since they were better equipped to handle emergencies in the OR. As of 9 pm last night he was still in ICU. The nurse on the floor told me that he must be transferred to General Medical before he can be transferred to Cleveland Clinic. They can't transfer him directly from the ICU.
From there they recommended that he go to a rehab facility quite a distance from our house. Cleveland Clinic is also quite a distance. They keep moving him further away!
I will check this morning to see if he is still in the ICU. Today I'm going to go get my blood test again. My glucose and A1C were too high; and my doctor wants to check it again.
Thank you for all your prayers and support.

I was going to mention the stress factor, too.

@BarBaraPrz The stress plays a more important role than many doctors can imagine.

I am glad they are least giving him better care. The Cleveland Clinic is a wonderful facility from what I heard, but of course, you would know better than I. It is terrible that he will be so far away, and that is very upsetting for you, understandably. Perhaps these places can get him in good enough shape to where he could eventually come back to where you are.

@LindaOHio I thought so. I thought it and the Mayo Clinic were the best in the United States.

Yeah, I can see how you feel. I went through the same with George. Although he went from ISC directly to select specials, and then to rehab. But, he had to be stable and not critical before he could be moved. I'm preying you don't lose your husband and he can fight this. It sounds like he's trying.

That sounds so scary! I am sorry to hear that happened, and that they keep moving him further away. I can't imagine how hard that would be. I mean I have dealt with similar things with other family, but never my spouse.
Hopefully your sugar tests are better, stress can really mess with the numbers....I know for a fact!

Oh, Linda!
That's a LOT for you and his sister to soak up for one day. A LOT. I'm so sorry.
I am surprised in a way that they are going to go ahead with the surgery at all. I mean, I know the hip is broken and needs repaired. Just concerned about his heart functions, as I am sure you are as well.
I wish I had words to make it better, but I don't. I truly do care, and I am so sorry you all are having to go through such a trial.

Let's hope the new places take better care of him, even if they are further away.

Continuing to pray for hubby. Saying extra prayers for him as they transfer him to Cleveland. I can only imagine how awful this be for you to have him being moved so far away but if they can help him better there then that is where he needs to be right now. He has already been through so much. Thinking of you everyday and sending hugs.

A couple of days ago, I did mention my concerns about his weakness. I don't understand why the doctors are in a rush to complete the operation, especially when he has issues with anasthesia.
I would rather he be given some painkillers and UTI medicines and good food through tubes till he became a bit more healthy to withstand the operation. But then, I am not a doctor. Out here, we could have insisted on that. I don't know how it is in your world.
I am just concerned that he is too weak.
You have been in my thoughts everyday Linda. You are a gem of a person. I hope god gives you enough strength to withstand this stress, and your husband recovers fast so that you are happy. Hugs sweetie...yes, I am praying for you.

Thank you so much, Vanny. Saw him yesterday he was in good spirits and ate about half of his lunch. I hope he's strong enough for the surgery.
