Happy March. We had to wait an extra day for it, so hope it’s worth the wait! We start the new month with a new countdown, looking at songs celebrating “living” (or lived or live). Just to make my country music haters swear this is coming in like a lion, here’s the opening tune.
All My Ex’s Live in Texas - George Strait
Ooh, that’s one good-lookin’ cowboy!!!
Yeah, he can sing, too.
One of the true legends of country music from the last 50 years, George Strait is the real deal. He puts that Western swing/traditional country vibe in everything, and he’s been loved for it for going on 45 years now. (Ouch, he can’t be that old [he’ll be 72 in May]!)
This is a Whitey Shafer song about a little love arson: he burned all those bridges and the old girlfriends didn’t think much of it, so he’ll just keep his cowboy hat outside of the Lone Star State.
I guess I don’t have to say “Linda? NO!” because the cowboy hat should give it away, but if you have an allergy to country music you might need to avoid listening to this one.
Even though it’ll give you a chuckle.

The hat definitely gave it away. Have a good weekend.

@FourWalls Definitely not. Let's just say their opinion of themselves was a bit above most other people's.

Not my favorite GS song (that’s “Amarillo By Morning”), but “bad” George is still good.

@FourWalls I like that one too, for sure. But I am still going to say All My Exes is better.

Haha, love the playful jab at the country music haters! "All My Ex's Live in Texas" is a classic. Can't go wrong with some George Strait to kick off a "living" themed countdown. And yes, hard to believe he's almost 72! The man is a legend.

Gee, it’s been almost 40 years since I saw him live in a pretty small venue.

This is one of my favorite country songs. I used to work with a girl who was in love with George Strait.

Most female country music fans in the 80s were in love with him.

I had the Country station programmed in on my '55 T-bird's radio. All my teen friends hated that I was so into Country Music and would sing along with my favorite ones. "All My Ex's Live in Texas" was at the top of the list, and even though I sounded like someone gathered up 30 or 40 tom cats and put them in a bag and shook well so that they would fight...when I sang, I would sing along with it at the top of my lack of voice. I didn't have many people that would ride with me, especially after they heard me sing! But it was and still is a great song both by the Shafer's and the singer.
