Colorado Congresswoman's Troubled Teen Arrested for Multiple Criminal Offenses

Anyone posting about a troubled teen to take a cheap shot at a mother's child rearing skills should be ashamed of themselves. What purpose does that serve? To single out a Colorado Congresswoman to score political points on a topic that has nothing to do with politics makes no sense. What a stupid thing to write about! So, here is my response... Dealing with a teenager today cannot be easy in my opinion. Teens are more susceptible to social media sites like Tic Tok than past generations where there was no internet. And yet, there are cases where celebrities or politician's children (in this case), misbehave in some way and it becomes a big story. And if you're a child of a famous person that's in the public eye you're going to be newsworthy and singled out. Does that make it right to gloat over a parent's broken heart, embarrassment, and sadness over what their child has done, just because she is in politics, and you don't like the party she represents. I think not. Let's take a closer look at the situation here. The child of the politician is 18 years old. Did you ever do something stupid as a teenager? Have you ever done something not realizing the ramifications of your actions? Just asking.... I have, as I would bet many of you have. But before you accuse me of defending his behavior I'm not. He sounds like one really messed up young adult. What this teen did was criminal and as the mainstream media likes to say, "no one is above the law," well almost no one with our two-tiered justice system today. But I digress. The teen, Tyler Boebert is facing four felony counts of criminal possession of ID documents and one felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony, along with 15 other misdemeanor and petty offenses. The charges are connected to vehicle trespasses and property thefts. Now that's really bad and he should serve jail time for those offenses in my view. Lauren Boebert, the child's mother, said her son would “take responsibility for his actions” and “should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.” Sometimes as parents we try to instill the right values to our children and in spite of our best efforts, they get in trouble anyway. In this case, serious trouble. But is that a reason to write a post mocking a parent and her son's troubles. Seems like a shallow thing to do to me. What do you think? @dgobucks226 Me too. I don't like to be lectured. If someone has an opinion that's different from mine....fine....but don't speak to me as if your opinion is the only correct one!!!

Unfortunately, some people do not use any common sense with their criticism. Especially, where politics are concerned. Petty personal attacks in my view shows a lack of intelligence, mature thought and an inability to express themselves. Reading those types of posts really aggravate me.

@LindaOHio I always caution people to understand that sometimes it's not a lecture. It is simply perceived as one because someone doesn't want to hear the truth.

I cannot imagine what it is like to rear a male teenager in this day and age. Female teenagers are tough to rear in different ways, as I think male teens are more likely to end up in trouble with the law. I imagine the mother is humiliated, and very scared right now. I don’t particularly like this female politician, but I certainly hope I would never rejoice in any parent’s sorrow. That kid needs serious help. I don’t blame her, but he really does need to get it together, soon. Mostly because if he does not, he’s going to just make things worse for himself, and his family. It’s up to him to grow up.

I couldn't agree more... Making light and criticizing a situation like that just because you do not like this politician, her party, or her policies is in poor taste. The parents are divorced, and the ex-husband has been threatening to this Congresswoman. I am sure this had some effect on this teen, something others from broken homes have also encountered. Posting about a topic like this in the way it was done is completely out of line...

It does, but sadly some here seem to relish in personal attacks against politicians. You want to criticize a politician's policies and why you disagree with them fine. But to go beyond that to belittle a family going through a personal crisis is being a small person and in poor taste. And I believe that was deliberately done in this instance.

@dgobucks226 It happens with celebritiies too. And, I suppose, Royals.

@marguicha Yep, anyone in the public eye is at risk from news outlets and social media of rumors, exaggerations and personal attacks. Sadly, these stories sell papers and get ratings.

I think you're right. You can bring up a chlld to the very best of your ability, do all the right things and some still go off the rails. Once they get to a certain point, there isn't much a parent can do or say to influence their behaviour. And I really, really hate political point-scoring.

Precisely, attacking a parent over how they raised a child is out of bounds. It was maliciously done because that person is not a supporter of this politician. Cheap shot. Not the first time they have posted something like this.

I agree. It's a cheap shot. Even when I speak of Hunter Biden, I am careful to simply point of Hunter's actions and not associate his actions with Joe Biden. Kids go bad sometimes even when you do everything right. Can we blame Jeffrey Dahmer's parents for Jeffrey's actions? Not hardly. But some people simply want to equate things like this with a political slant, and I think it's just dumb.
