3/6/24 - Update on My Husband

He's still in ICU. They are trying to get his AFIB under control with medications. I've never known this to work with him. Only a shock to the heart seems to work. He might get moved to a regular room today. Yesterday was his second day of physical therapy. It's going to be a slow process. I don't know when he will be released to rehab. We smuggled in some Dr. Pepper, cheesecake from Texas Roadhouse and some Hershey's Kisses. Hubby ended up giving most of the kisses away to the nurses as bribes. His biggest request is always cups of ice. Traffic around Cleveland Clinic is bad enough on the weekends...during the week it's sheer chaos. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. I wonder if they could transfer him to a different hospital for his convalescence to make things easier for y’all, but there’s no telling how much money that would cost and how much red tape it would cause. Is his heart doctor in the mix with the planning and treatment at Cleveland Clinic, or are they ignoring him as if “he’s a hick, and WE’RE the Cleveland Clinic, home of the 1929 x-ray fire disaster”? (Some places do get a big opinion of themselves.) He might be able to shed some light on the afib history and treating it…which may eventually require a pacemaker.

I feel comfort with him at CC. They are supposed to be the best. His heart doctor was involved at the last hospital; but not at CC. CC took over all of his issues when he was transferred there.

Have they said anything about him perhaps getting a pacemaker or a pacemaker/defibrillator? Bob has one of those. He does not show any afib rhythms anymore.

Hope they can get his AFIB regulated and that he can be moved to a regular room. If he's giving away Hershey kisses as bribes it sounds like he's in good spirits. You must be exhausted from all the stress. Prayers for you and you husband Linda

@LindaOHio It must be really difficult to give good care when they are over-worked and/or under-staffed.

@JudyEv They seem to have enough staff inside the hospital. It's outside with the traffic that needs a lot of help.

I like the bribes thing. He still has his sense of humor it would seem, and I like the devious nature of it being a bit of a deviant myself. lol. I hope they can get the AFIB thing under control. He doesn't need a stroke at a time like this. Finger crossed and my thoughts are with you.

Unfortunately, as we grow older our bodies take longer to heal. I wish they didn't. No one wants to be in the hospital for long periods. I am surprised you can take food from outside into an ICU room. My son has been in ICU 4 times since last summer, and they are so strict on that here. I do hope they can get a handle on the AFIB.
