The windscreen chip that wasn't a chip

The photo shows golf balls which we’ve hung from the ceiling to tell us when we’re in the right place to stop to allow the garage doors to come down safely behind the cars. A few weeks ago, a stone flew up while we were driving and chipped the windscreen of our Prado. Our insurance pays for one new windscreen a year without us losing our no-claim bonus. The repairer came to our place and replaced the screen without any trouble. Then, last week, we discovered a chip in the windscreen of the other car. Again, we called the insurance company and a nice young man came out to fix it. However, it turned out to be a mark on the inside of the screen and not a chip at all. We were a bit embarrassed to say the least but he was good about it and didn’t charge us anything.

Luckily he hadn't had to drive far to get to us.

Good that your insurance covers that. As for the golf balls, maybe you should switch to tennis balls. Maybe you're speeding too fast into them and chipping your windows. lol

You made me chuckle. I think my Auntie used tennis balls.

We didn't have any tennis balls but we did have golf balls.

That reminds me. There is a chip on the Beast's windshield I should have repaired.

I call my 2008 Chevy Silverado "The Beast." I guess great minds think alike. What is your vehicle?

If you catch it soon enough, sometimes they can repair rather than replace the windscreen.

@TheHorse Hmmm - or maybe it's a case of fools never differ.

I'm glad your insurance covered the first windscreen. I'm glad the second one didn't have a chip.

@JudyEv That's true. With all the debris that flies around the highway, it can happen any time.

Thanks. It's good it wasn't a chip. You never know when you're going to get another broken windscreen.

Thank you for sharing this good break you had dealing with the windscreen insurance not charging you for the incidents related to the windscreen.

We felt a bit silly that we thought the mark was a chip.

@JudyEv - My husband insisted that there was a chip on the windscreen, I "washed" it off!

We were going to put down planks but I reckoned if we were doing any projects in the garage, we'd be forever tripping over them.

@JudyEv You are very lucky that a kind person came to fix it and not someone that does not care and will charge you;
