Eventful trip to Aldi today

I had a list so long I was thinking it would take forever to round everything up. I went to Target first, as there were 2 prescriptions there for me, and I also bought a few cleaning items on sale there. For some reason, Target was just swamped today--it was like Christmas, huge long lines. But they actually had every single checkout staffed with a checker, so it went very quickly.
Up next, a big, big grocery run at Aldi. Not far from that particular Target, and not far from the exit I take to get home. I trotted through with my lengthy list and rounded up pretty much everything I needed that was on the list. The only think I bought that wasn't on the list was fresh broccoli (on sale!) and 4 avocados, as they were .25 each, which is a steal. However, that was pretty much the only bargains to be had today on food.
Typical big Aldi run, take the insulated bags in with me, and then after paying I got it all sacked up and I was out the door to load the car. Next to my car, there is a big SUV, and a nice looking young man was loading items in the back. His wife, or whoever she was, was screeching at him as she didn't like the choices he made for this, that, and whatever. She grabbed this HUGE package of toilet tissue and said, ''take this back inside and get a refund! I'm not wiping the kids a***s with that stuff.'' (It honestly wasn't a bad brand, she said she had to have Charmin Ultra Soft!) He got some gumption and said, you want it returned, YOU take it in and do it, I'm done!...oh...she refused and got back in the car. He came over to me, and said he was sorry I had to listen to that tirade--and presented me with that huge package of TP. He wouldn't take no for an answer, and he even unloaded the rest of my groceries in to my car. He sent his son to return the carts, handed me a quarter (@porwest will be so jealous!) and told me to have a nice day.
So nice of him to try to turn a bad scene into a good thing. He was very sweet, and I got free TP--24 rolls! Yay!

Free TP from a young sweet man . Yaaaay!
I enjoyed reading the part where he said no to returning the TP to target. I wonder what the wife will do now that they don't have TP.

Oh, she was the type of person who would just go get whatever she wanted. She wanted him to save money but I don’t think she was much interested in doing that!

Yep, sounds like life these days, one good person and one bad person. It amazes me how people cannot tell the difference. Funny story miss lady, thanks for sharing.

I had to admire the way he handled the situation. He did the best he could and she cut him to the quick. He did tell her that she could go somewhere else and get the kind she wanted, but he refused to return it and I honestly don’t blame him! She was just being rude and nasty.

@MarieCoyle I see it so often here, many do handle it way better than I would. I am just at point do not want to go anywhere because these bad people everywhere and they take lives if you know what I mean. Don't put yourself in that situation, they say. They are everywhere and hiding. I just stay solo, sad to say.

I know we are all leary of angry strangers. Often solo is faster, usually I do the big store trip once a month by myself, my son can’t be on his feet that long.
I was proud of the young man, telling her to return it herself. He said “you wanted me to come here and save money!”

The woman does know, you're least likely to find name brand products at Aldi, right? Talk about entitled B. Oh well you got a freebi out of it.

He told her that. He pointed to the package and said”see, it says just like Charmin!” I was happy to take it off his hands!

@MarieCoyle - I agree and arguments should be kept "private", she was in a public place.

I know a popular saying is, no one knows what goes on behind closed doors. True, for sure. But the doors weren''t closed, and she was screeching about toilet paper. Some people really need to get their priorities straightened out.

I have always thought if a couple is going to have an argument, it should be in private and just between the two of them.

That was very nice of him to do! And probably pissed his wife off to no end. haha. I'm sure he had a nice car ride home listening to her rant about the toilet paper!

@MarieCoyle Some people are never happy unless they’re miserable. She sounds like one of those people.

Acting like that in front of your own children--well, any child--is just not acceptable in my book. No, she is definitely the type that no one can make happy, people like that usually are so unhappy with themselves, they can't think past that.

Jeff, I told him his wife wouldn't be happy he gave it to me...he looked at me and said, ''It's fine, she is not ever happy, I'm sorry to say.'' I doubt that relationship lasts. I also hate to think of those kids listening to her screeching.

If a person acts out that badly in public, it's hard not to wonder how they act in private life. She was not being nice, or kind, and all in front of her children. Her older son just hung his head down...it was sad. Sure, free stuff is great, and I like it as much as anyone does. I just felt badly for him and for the kids.

Excellent I would have probably told her to do the same. That was kind of him to give you the toilet rolls. Now she won't have to use it she can go out & get it herself!

He will probably welcome her getting out of the house for awhile, so he can have some peace.

Lenore, I wondered the same. She just wasn’t nice at all. I don’t even want to think about what he puts up with at home! Ugh.

@MarieCoyle Something must have been magical in the beginning of their relationship. I'm glad you got out of there in one piece.

Something sure did make her a very negative and vocal hag! I felt sorry for the kids, too.

That's great. My mother has been wanting to go to Aldi, but we haven't gone there yet. We went to Food Lion on Sunday. I got alot of stuff. I got some "new" flavored sparkling water to try. I did a sparkling water survey on Friday and I decided to try one of the brands they had listed. It's ok.

The Aldi stores here are cheaper than Walmart, and other places. The only other store we have that comes close to their prices (or the same, depending on sales, etc.) is Ruler, which if you are not familiar with Ruler, they are a division of Kroger, and sell Kroger products. We do not have Food Lion in my area. I cannot recall if I have ever been to one.

She acted very entitled. And no, she for sure wasn't nice, but he certainly was. I drove away thinking he deserved way better than that. And so did the kids.

Wow. 25 cents for avocadoes is DIRT cheap. My wife would have pounced on those for sure. Gosh, all that over toilet paper. He seems like a nice guy. His life must be miserable with that woman. Yeesh. But good you got some free stuff, some bargain stuff and your quarter back. lol

I thought of you concerning that quarter!
Felt so sorry for that young man. She was such a hag to him, and set such a poor example of behavior in front of her children. I know, all that fuss over TP. Some people are just never happy.
