Often we get to know a lot about other nations, cultures and Ethnic races through Internet, TV and Print news.
However, often these news have individual bias, pre conceived notions and assumptions or even misleading points.
I learnt that direct communication is much better.
We recently had a dinner with our European counterparts.
During the course of the dinner, I interacted a lot with a Polish folk.
We talked a lot and came to know quite so more about Poland.
He came to know that the Indian President is a female and how females are making good progress and positions in India, even with some concerns.
He told that often what they hear about India is a lot different from what he saw himself and came to know from us.
What is your opinion about such connects?

The media only tell you want they want you to know rather than what is actually going on.

Yes for me, the only way to realize a culture is total immersion by living it in the place of origin.

At times, that is not possible.
However, we get to know a lot when we meet a person of the other country/race/ethnicity.

If you really want to learn about other cultures, direct contact is most effective. Visit the place and talk to local people.

Yes if that is possible.
That's why high International flight costs can hinder such connects more.

These personal connections are awesome. One of the reasons is that it's harder for politicians to start wars when people actually know other people from the target country. Not that India would ever declare war on Poland or vice versa, but there are countries where it does apply.

Yes I concur with you.
In fact, if cultural connections between any two countries are strong, going to war becomes much more difficult.

@pgrikha-2 Foreigners are ignorant about our country and our culture.Last year I happened to meet a American who had come to India for business purposes. He asked me a lot of questions about our culture.I answered his questions and took him to some temples here.He met with my parents and tried to talk to them.My parents know very little English. So I had to be interlocutor .

Yes and a lot of false propoganda and misinformation through Foreign Media and even elements within India.
Even till a few years back, many foreigners knew India just as a land of snake charmers.
