Well...I'm trying the slow cooker onion soup mix meatloaf recipe

Someone on this site told me they loved meatloaf made with onion soup mix. I love using that soup mix for pot roast, but I had never tried it in meatloaf. Plus, our oven doesn't work, so he mentioned that a slow cooker would work. Well, that's what I'm doing. I just put the meatloaf mix I made last night in the slow cooker pot. I can't wait to try it. I'm not planning on putting a ketchup-brown sugar topping on it because I like gravy with my meatloaf, so I'm just not doing it. I do like it, but not with gravy. I think I'm going to make the same sides as in the photo I borrowed from the recipe site. I'm also looking forward to meatloaf sandwiches later. I do love meatloaf. I've only had one meatloaf I couldn't eat (they put anise seed in it - I just couldn't get past the first couple bites). In another recent meal, the actual meatloaf was sweet. Not the topping, which it didn't have. The meatloaf itself. I ate it, but I won't order it again. But, I think this might just be a good recipe for me. Few ingredients and really easy to put together. My kind of cooking. UPDATE - IT'S DELICIOUS!!!

I saw a recipe for it one day. I am sure it is delicious, but I don't really need that extra sodium. Maybe sometime I will try it. I don't usually alter my meatloaf recipe but one time I had bacon on it, and another I had a recipe that called for yogurt.

@jerzgirl Yes, it really doesn't need bacon. I don't make my meatloaf with milk ordinarily.

@snowy22315 When I use salsa, I don't use milk. The liquid in that is plenty for the bread crumbs or torn bread that can be added. I haven't tried the stove top stuffing recipe either.

I can see the yogurt since most recipes add milk. I've had it with bacon on it, but as much as I love bacon, it didn't do anything for me on the meatloaf.

I haven't made meatloaf in a long time. You can bake those, too. That's how my mother did it.

Our oven doesn't work and I couldn't find the base to the slow cooker, so I put the pot on top of a flat griddle and then kept the fire low. It worked!!

@jerzgirl As long as you allow air to get under it, you don't have to be perfect. Our oven works fine. To bad yours doesn't, but you have to use what you have.

@kaylachan I didn't put it on a rack in the pot. I don't have one that would fit that pot. But, it turned out really good.

I make meatloaves once in a while but prefer to make a roast beef as it is easier. I gave away my big over after the fire in my kitchen last year as I hadnĀ“t used it for decades. I only use an over the counter electric oven and I can roast there a whole chicken, a roast beef or a big piece of ham.

It's amazing!! On the loose side, but that might be different if I'd had an oven. But, this is now my go-to recipe!

I haven't tried the slow cooker pot yet since most of the time I need to prepare for the meal as soon as possible But I know the slow cooker pot will work very well to provide delicious food. I shall try it some day
