Hot date day! I’m meeting my niece in an hour. But before I do that I’m going to give you another song with “live” in the title. Again, a big thanks to @RasmaSandra for the suggestion of “living” songs after two months of obituaries. Desperately needed! And here’s today’s song.
Living in the Past - Jethro Tull
This is here because it lost a coin toss; otherwise, it’d be in the top ten.
This was probably Jethro Tull’s first notoriety in the United States, starting them on the way to their “why-in-the-hell-aren’t-they-in-the-Hall-of-Fame” career.
Yes, you read that right, the band that, thanks to singer/songwriter/frontman Ian Anderson, made the flute and the codpiece cool, isn’t in there. But they’ve nominated Erik B. and Rakem again. Jerks.
Oh, well, they suck and we know it. Jethro Tull does NOT. Yes, they take some getting used to; and, they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. (They also aren’t “heavy metal,” despite the intro to “Aqualung” and the Grammy they got for “best heavy metal album” back in 1989.
)
They are good, though. This out-of-kilter (it’s in 5/4 time) song was their first “hit,” such as it was.
They weren’t much on the “pop” charts in America, but they were FM rock staples in the 70s. That’s where I heard and fell in love with this song.
Living in the Past
Written by Ian Anderson
Recorded by Jethro Tull
Released as a single, 1969

Aha, my favorite one-legged flute player!!! I would classify their music as more progressive rock. And many of their tunes have kind of a Scottish feel to them. Maybe because Ian Anderson was born in Scotland. I saw them twice. And contrary to the stupid HOF, they are not "Thick as a Brick..."

The Rokes song (by way of the Grass Roots)? No, that didn’t make the cut.

I just had Jethro Tull come up in a crossword. I wonder if his name will pop up a third time.
There aren't too many songs in 5/4. Maybe you could do a series on that. I know there is another well-known one but, for the life of me, ...... it's just come to me 'Take Five'.
My mind's search engine is a little slow at times.

Hope nobody expects an agricultural song from the band.
Can’t take too many songs with off-kilter time signatures.

I think Jethro Tull’s biggest hit in the US was “Bungle in the Jungle.” They had a lot of popular “FM rock” cuts, too.

I’ve never seen them live, but video of them live shows Ian Anderson is an outstanding showman.
