Are you fully prepared for the Eclipse on April 8th?

People are stocking up on food and water, preparing their storm shelters, school closings are already in place, oh my goodness.
It's an eclipse, not the end of the world.
Question: I've tried looking this up online and the answers are mixed and all over the place. They've already listed a handful of states that will experience the full eclipse, meaning complete darkness.
Will this only be a couple minutes of darkness? A couple hours? Some sites are calling it "a day of darkness."
Michigan is not on the list, yet Ohio is.. and they're right below us. So does this mean Michigan's sky will only be "kinda dark" like when the sky turns all grey before a thunderstorm, or we won't notice anything at all.. ?
Thanks for any info.
I might just climb out my window and sit on the roof, no matter what we see here in MI.
This is the perfect excuse to put up a Great Expectations song

I think Africa is exempted. I am not prepared for the eclipse but I doubt it is as serious as people make it to look. I haven't prepped on anything.
But it's good to stock up on food and water just in case of an emergency.

@Melanie_Marie you are welcomed. It's nice that your room is stocked up. Can you mention some of the healthy snacks you have so I can have ideas on what to buy?

@mildredtabitha Sure, I make most of the snacks from scratch, but a good example of a non-homemade treat would be organic Triscuit Thin Crisps with imported Muenster cheese, found that little gem yesterday in the international cheese section. This cheese tastes like fresh butter. Here in the States, the safest and best way to eat is going full-blown carnivore, and/or (which is what I do) going carnivore + organic. I’m about to post a discussion about some food and you’ll see another example.

My entire room is always fully-stocked for no reason whatsoever.
:) Lots of healthy snacks and glass-bottled water. Thank you Mildred

I remember the one in 2017 too. My dad made this box with a hole in it while I was grocery shopping and then when I got home we were using it to view the eclipse (safely) I guess. I might still have a pic.. hold up, I might be able to dig it up after I respond to the responses. Thank you rainy

Love the song reference.
Don't worry, it's a total eclipse for some, not the apocalypse! Michigan will get a partial view, like a really dramatic dimness, not total darkness. Roof sitting sounds fun for the partial view, but be safe!

Cool! Thanks for the info girly xx
I found out about a fun science experiment we can try on the day of the eclipse. They said to wear either red or green.
..Something about the sun’s rays suddenly getting blocked out will change the color to maybe… neon? Or glow in the dark. I don’t know the specifics, they just said to wear red or green.
I have a green tankini top I’m gonna wear. Might be kinda cold but totally worth it to see what happens.
My neighbors might think I’m trying to get a tan on the roof. Haha! You got anything red or green?

Some very bored, overly-dramatic peeps in this world. Yes
It’s fun to look forward to it, but why fear it? Or see it as some kind of natural disaster?
Thnx DWD

This is ridiculous. Many of us have seen/lived through an eclipse.
Many small towns in the heart of where to eclipse will ''hit'' are capitalizing on it all, hotel rooms they couldn't rent are suddenly from about $400-$600 dollars for the time of the eclipse. The interstates and smaller highways here will once again be clogged with many heading south, not far from me, to see the heart of the eclipse. I am on the edge of it, but a big band of it will hit in southern Illinois.

We’re right on the edge too, only the very bottom of Michigan will see the full show and then it cuts off where we are.
I know for a fact we won’t still be at the hotel (we only have it until the end of the month) but I’m guessing there will be many eclipse parties there that night and the indoor pool & jacuzzi will be packed. Probably Twilight Marathon on TV too.
Thank you Marie

There are so many crazy theories floating around. That people need to get at least 3 days of food and water in their homes, because there could be clogged roads, people losing their tempers, not enough gasoline? long lines at restaurants, etc. Oh, and that cell service could well be disrupted due to excess cell usage? There is no end to the stuff...oh, dear.

You need special glasses if you are going to look right into the sun.

Yeah, you can order them online and I think I saw some at a dollar store. I have hot pink tinted sunglasses that have sunglass clips - dark grey that I wear right over them. I wonder if that would be enough coverage? Thank you marguicha

I've been through a total eclipse. They don't typically last very long. I really didn't notice it'd happened if I'm being honest.

Haha I know what you mean. There was something big I missed awhile ago.. can’t remember what it was but I slept right thru it.
When I woke up, everyone was still making a big deal about it. I just remember thinking, WOW, this had no effect on my life whatsoever. Thanks Kayla, beautiful name

It looks like totality is going to last for about four and a half minutes. If it's anything like the partial eclipse we saw a few months ago, I'd expect the whole thing to last around an hour to an hour and a half total. It's not the same sort of grey that comes before a thunderstorm... everything looks off and the lighting is weirdly flat and just wrong. It's almost like someone installed a dimming switch on the sun and then started slowly dialing it back from 100%, if that makes any sense.
NASA's page for the eclipse shows that a partial eclipse will be visible from all 48 contiguous U.S. states, so you'll be able to see at least some of it. Be sure to get some of the special eclipse glasses for the viewing, though... without those, it's way too easy to permanently damage your vision by looking at an eclipse!

Got it! Great info here, thank you so much @yukimori
The whole thing sounds weird. And I love weird.
So this should be pretty fun.
Thanks again
