It will probably be my last cold lunch for a while.

I´m sure that winter is not near yet. But when there is a cloudy and chilly day I imagine cold and illnes.
So probably, if the weather keep on being like this, I´ll start soaking legumes and eating stews and casseroles.
But today, I had one and a half cooked potato, a boiled egg and some left over meat from yesterday besides the one I froze for another day.
So I diced everything, shredded some lettuce leaves and diced finelly a couple of dill pickles. To that I added some of my homemade mayo.
I suppose some people will call this a potato salad of sorts. But for me it is part of the dishes that have the taste of childhood.
Then we had to have a soup as one of the dishes. And my mom bought a bone with meat to boil until death. With the meat (usually originally rather tough) diced finelly and all the rest of the ingredients I told you about, she made a first dish called "salpicón". Then came the soup and finally the main dish. I can´t understand why we weren´t fat. But then we ran and jumped all day as soon as we finished doing our homework.
Did you eat did sort of dish when you were a child? How was it called?

We had regular potato salad, made at home, quite often. Other than a bit of mayo on a sandwich or in a recipe, we are not huge mayo lovers. I know you love it, but there is no way I could eat it as often as you do, it's just not something we ever did, I guess. But we all have different tastes and traditions!

I never ate much mayo until I l starned to make it at home. It is light and inexpensive. I use onely one egg (white and yolk) I little less than half a cup of oil , salt and the juice of half a lemon. I keep it in a Tupperware in the fridge and use it for several dishes and sandwiches as you know. I don´t like at all bought mayo.

That sounds like a delicious lunch, My mother made Latvian dishes so I remember delicious spinach soups and she made some of the best pork chops and other dishes she was used to from her own childhood and dad enjoyed.

No we had nothing like this at all Marguicha when I was a kid.
We had mostly quick dishes that Mama would make and left in the fridge for us for a few days as she was so busy working.

When I was a child, my father was the provider at home. But mymother made our clothes (even our coats), knitted everything at home and took care that we made our homework. We had a maid for the heavy cleaning but she was a wonerful cook too.

My mother-in-law made the best potato salad. None of us have been able to duplicate it. Have a good day.

On the farm growing up, we had bacon and eggs for breakfast every morning, cake/biscuits mid morning and mid afternoon and two course meals for lunch and dinner but none of us were overweight. We were too active in those days.
