Where X Marks the Spot

With signs of spring everywhere of course, except close to me where I see mostly palm trees and they are the same from season to season. I remembered two trees that stood along the path back in Riga, Latvia that we took when heading for the store. One was an oak tree and one was a chestnut. In the spring when they first started sprouting leaves you could see that their branches formed an X. It was interesting to note this because once the trees were in full leaf you could not see this. They only looked like two trees side by side. When the chestnut started blooming with big white flowers then you could tell that the other one was an oak tree. It was particularly interesting in the wintertime when the branches were sprinkled with snow because it looked like a snowy path leading from one tree branch to another.
The oak tree is on the left and the chestnut is on the right

@Deepizzaguy it is like opening a package to see the X in the autumn when you haven't seen it all summer and then the leaves begin to fall

@kaylachan we always wondered if some pirates had buried some treasure right there but we never tried digging

@wolfgirl569 the area we lived in in the suburbs was wonderful. As you see in the photo who would think that a major street with cars is just steps away or the main street you walked to get to the store, I always liked that best once we got the shopping done we were off the main streets and like in the countryside

@just4him I often wondered how those trees grew like that after being planted. I made it a mystery about why someone would plant a chestnut beside an oak, Usually it is all chestnuts or all oaks,

Your description of those trees in Riga paints such a vivid picture! It's fascinating how nature's subtle cues reveal the identity of each tree as the seasons change. The snowy path between the oak and chestnut branches sounds like something out of a winter wonderland. Thanks for sharing this lovely memory!
