My Hug Bank

This is prompted by a conversation with Julia @Juliaacv and her granddaughter Willow giving her the best hugs. Hugs and little ones are the best. When my grandchildren were young I told them that I needed lots of squeezy hugs to fill up my hug bank because all those hugs had to last me until I saw them again and could refill my bank. It became a game every time I saw the grandkids. They would ask "Nanny, did I fill up the hug bank?" Of course they did My grandson is now 19 years old and was home from college this past week. On his way back he stopped here to say good-bye and gave me the biggest bear hug on his way out the door. He smiled and asked if he had filled up my hug bank. He actually brought tears to my eyes that he remembered. Time goes by way too fast

You have a sweet and lovely grandson, usually boys do not like a lot to hug.

You are right about boys not being huggers but all of my grandsons turned out to be good huggers. Actually they are better huggers than my granddaughters . All of them are over 6 feet tall now

@LadyDuck it should be interesting to see how your nieces kids grow up. I think some people are just born more affectionate than others.

Thank you so much for the mention, and the advice. I do not take their hugs for granted, I cherish each and every one of them. I absolutely love your story of the hug bank, and I'd like to borrow it is that is alright with you and your grands. I know what a close relationship you have with your grands, especially that college guy who gave you the big bear hug. There is just something so pure and innocent about the hug from a child, that nothing else can compare to. I think that is my favorite aspect of this stage of their little lives, that and the way that they say certain words that silence me as I try to figure out exactly what they are saying. Yesterday, they each put their new short set on, over their winter clothes, that I brought to them, and then they held the tag near their neck and simply said 'cut' and repeated it. I told them that Mommie had to cut those when she puts them into the washing machine as they cannot wear them until that has been done.

@Marilynda1225 Thanks, the 'bank' concept will come in handy since I have an account set up for them that we put a little into at Christmas instead of buying toys. Our son will be happy that they understand this at a young age, he is a saver. My hubs texted me almost an hour ago that our son finished work early and that he was coming home, but it seems like he is having too much fun, it is only a 15 minute drive and he's still not here yet.

You are more than welcome to use my hug bank. I think it's just so cute when little ones, especially now that you r twins are old enough to understand the concept. When my grands were that age they would squeeze me tight to fill up my hug bank. They knew all my hugs had to last until the next time I saw them. From something I said once on a whim, it turned into a game. Willow and Harper are at such a delightful age. Funny how they knew the tags had to be cut off their new outfits. I'm so happy that you and your hubby are able to spend time with both girls. Making memories that will last a lifetime for all of you.

I know what you mean and I also think animals now and then need hugs, There is no one to hub me but that does not matter instead now and then I pick up one and then the other cat and give them hugs,
