Fine Arts Day

We have certain traditions in our school. We have Kansas Day as close to January 29 as we can. There are different venues within the school where we learn about Kansas. Then we also have Fine Arts Day a little later in the spring, before we all start having field trips. Today was Fine Arts Day. There were four stations within the school that our students visited. It is not the same thing every year. Today they had a painting project, a guest floutist who is a professor at Emporia State University, a person who taught dance moves in the gym, and a group of Forensics Students who did improv in the library. Other years we have done yoga, and had other types of guest musicians, and theater groups. Our classroom was a little short handed with staff. One worker was leading the painting project. One worker took a personal day because her daughter is moving a long way away. It was an enjoyable change of pace, and now we are at the weekend. Hallelujah!

It sounds like a wonderful day. Question: What is a floutist? I looked it up on dictionary.com and there is no such word.

It is a person who plays flute or piccolo. I wonder if I spelled it wrong?

Our students in our structured program sometimes need timings modified so that they are not in huge crowds too long or out of their routine, but it is adaptable. Kid friendly days.

I am in a K-5 Elementary. Our facility also has a Headstart Program and a Pre-K classroom. The little ones are not at school of Friday, so do not do those programs. They operate independently of the Elementary students but it makes it so easy for them when they start Kindergarten.

It gives kids different things to think about besides electronics or sports. It is good exposure for them.

That sounds a nice diversion from a normal day. It's always good to see the weekend come around though. Hope it's a good one.
