Silly Stupid Hoomins

March 27, 2024 3:19pm CST
There are times (most of them really) when I wonder how you Hoomins have managed to survive this long. Case in point: Today I read of a Hoomin warning people to keep their animals inside with the curtains/blinds drawn between 2-4 PM on April 8 to protect them from going blind during the solar eclipse. And this immediately made me think of all the blind wild animals I saw wondering about starving to death because they could not see to find food after the last eclipse happened. (Actually I only saw three - and they were mice. I think they were blind before the eclipse.) I realize the Hoomins mean well - but why are they sooooooo dumb?

Maybe the hoomins think that, just because they have to be told that hot coffee is hot, the animals are that brainless as well.

I hope my Hoomin doesn't go blind, he won't be able to find my food to feed me.

Some critters might become a little confused if it's dark all of sudden, but stating they'll turn blind is overly dramatic. Hoomins are animals too, after all, why are we immune from going blind? 'Specially since we're probably the only species who will gladly stare at the sun during an eclipse. Maybe we've really gone blind but we aren't aware. It means we don't read what we write and that explains many things.

It is not dark all of a sudden. In fact, it is a very slow change.

@marguicha Really? What's the big deal then? I thought it was like Doomsday! Well, it's still faster than what it usually takes (a whole day for the sun to set), I only experienced a couple of moon eclipses so I'm guessing.

It is more like evening and dusk approaching - birds are known to act as though they are getting ready to roost for the night.

You've got a good point Scar, far be it for me to challenge you on this one. That is a dumb warning and unnecessary. But please, try to make sure that your Hoomin either wears protective eyewear or stays inside away from the windows.

@MarieCoyle If Hoomin went blinded I would be a solid black cat on a black background.

I checked and he still has his eclipse glasses from 2017 so I knocked them off the table.

@Scarred4Lyfe Scar, as always, you did the right thing to knock them to the floor. Your Hoomin needs your guidance, keep up the good work.

If my recaller isn't malfunctioning I seem to remember a post or two about it (animals) last time we had an eclipse as well. People get half of an idea and instead of completing it they run off with it half-baked and...I know they mean well, but dang.

Stupid Hoomins - yah, they are pretty stupid. Some of them need to be categorized as their own species . Someone just needs to come out with solar eclipse glasses for pets .

The hoopla is incredible. Schools are closed…everyone is warned…don’t look at the sun….even with the “eclipse glasses” you could go blind. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but my word, you’d think that the 9 of April will have 90% of people out of gas, out of food and blind….say what…does everyone only get groceries for one day at a time…. I’ve had to go for a month between grocery shopping and not run out of food. Meals may become creative…but. O one is going to starve, or even feel hungry.

There was a total solar eclipse in this part of the planet a few years ago. Claudia´s partner made a whole show of it, getting special glasses and taking out chairs to the garden. The moon moved so slowly that I was bored before the eclipse was total (it lasts just a little) and I went into the house. Claudia had dogs and cats who weren´t interested at all in the eclipse so they did not look up. They did not need to be asked to go into the house or to wear special glasses. And yes. The mice were blind a lot before any eclipse

To some animals it does seem sudden. If a cat or dog is walking the streets for example, it would be a slow process. However, if you're an animal that relies on other senses to tell night and day it can seem that way. Those animals typically live in the woods. Most domestic animals aren't going to care.

I heard the whole thing occurs over several hours but the really neat part lasts only for a few minutes.

Hoomin's try hard to pretend like they know all the answers:( Yet, I've known many animals that have a million times more common sense, than some Hoomin's, who claim to be brilliant! Better put, they are legends in their own eyes
