My country is facing this situation and I don't know if your country is experiencing the same scenario. There's lot of unemployment in India the result is there are lot of people sleeping on the streets dying of hunger. The old are suffering and dying wretched deaths. Isn't it the government's duty to create jobs so no man goes hungry?

@grenery8 Those who are good politicians in India are slowly retiring from politics.

It is a sad state all over the world. Here in the USA, we have the same problem. The government is doing its best to provide food and shelter, but resources are limited for the amount of people homeless. Churches, shelters, soup kitchens, volunteer organizations, etc. are doing the best for these folks.

@aninditasen Just as long as there are kind people in the world, there is hope.

@DianneN That's true. It's the compassionate people who are keeping the helpless people alive.

In India neither the government nor the social organization help the unemployed but homeless people in the streets are helped by some social organization.

I just don’t know the answer to this. In America, studies show 75% of the homeless are mentally ill (including addicts). But 25% are victims of job loss, domestic abuse, and other things that have zero to do with getting mental health help. I do not know what to do about it, but illegal immigration is making it so much worse. No one, regardless of mental health or job loss should be homeless.

When there are so many homeless people without jobs in your country I don't think they should allow immigration.

Here, it is a complex problem. There are so many reasons why a person becomes homeless, and continues to be homeless. Some of those reasons are unemployment yes. The government here does not seem to have a grasp on this immense problem for years now. It seems half measures are in place, but no one ever solves the issue once and for all.

We have a lot of homeless people here too because of unemployment. The government can create jobs but if people don't want to work, it's not their fault.

In India the government is not creating jobs for the youth and is making education costly and the result is unemployment.

@JudyEv I know. In a country where people have to work to get three square meals a day, the old who can't work anymore will lead a miserable life.

It's really sad that homelessness has become so common . We have it here in the US too. I'm very blessed to have a roof over my head at my age. I have a friend who is 80 years old and looking for a job to make ends meet.

@aninditasen it's so sad to think that the elderly still have to work at 80 yrs old. I wish I was in a position to help but financially I'm not.

HK's unemployment rate is very low. But we have quite a lot of homeless people sleeping on the streets. This is a complex issue. The people who sleep on the streets may be too old to work, or their skills do not match with the job requirements.

Something should be done for the old and more jobs created.
