Do you ever use an instant pot or other pressure cooker to cook?

I have a nuwave cooker which is very similar to an insta pot, but is minus a few features. I had asked for an instapot for Christmas one year and this is what I got... I kind of wish I could sell this and get a real instapot. Anyway, I have only used it a few times..and had kind of forgotten how it worked..but it made very credible bean soup in about an hour without soaking.. It is good for stuff like that. Maybe I will try making fried chicken in it sometime. Do you use these cookers?

I don't have anything like this. My Mum was scared stiff of pressure cookers. Those back in her day were a bit unreliable and inclined to blow up.

I used to be afraid of them, but not now. I would say I am cautious but not scared.

@JudyEv There were some incidents with pressure cookers, that's true. Nowadays if there is an incident they raise safety concerns and they have to inform the users.

Yes I got a speedi cooker last year, but the cooking bowl wasn't stainless steel and it scratched after a few times in the dishwasher. It was supposed to be safe to wash in the dishwasher though. Anyway, I was reading that the non-stick layer if scratched can release some chemicals in the food so I stopped using my speedi cooker. Next time I will go for the stainless steel for sure..

I have an instant pot, name brand, pressure cooker. I love it. It is quick and easy to use and we enjoy the way it cooks the food we put into it. Our son was always intimated by his, which is a cast off of mine (the largest pot that they have) until my hubs showed him how I use it and now he likes it as much as he likes his coffee maker. And yes........he loves his coffee maker.

@LadyDuck I don't have that exactly, but I do have an electric frying pan that is deep. Same, I rarely use it.

I am too afraid to use anything to cook but the microwave. I saw a YouTube video on Instapots and am petrified of the. I only use the microwave to heat frozen meals as the only way I cook and have been kind of anxious using the microwave too Have a great day!

You will be just fine with the microwave, and the oven is safe too. If they weren't we would all be vegetarian... I would not recommend a pressure cooker for you though. Maybe you would like a crockpot. They are usually only low temps.

Jennifer, just remember all the things your peer friend taught you about the stove. I am sure you can do it! And Snowy's idea is a great one, a small crock pot would work wonders for you.

@MarieCoyle I try to remember but it is so scary to turn on the stove. However, my peer and I made two grilled cheeses last Wednesday since I wasn't feeling well with my anxiety and not eating so I had two of them for dinner one evening. I started the grilled cheese and my peer finished them Before Covid, I was able to cook all kinds of things without anybody in the house but me, and for a while my Hamster who is in Hamster Heaven, and I had no problem cooking with him in the house even though he wasn't in the kitchen. now I have my cat who thankfully is still alive and I can't force myself not to be petrified of the stove and especially the oven. I got emotionally ruined by Covid and I haven't cooked much since on my own I used to cook kielbasa and sauerkraut and some other things in the crockpot that was my dad's special recipe. Now I am afraid to use it what if I fell asleep because there are days I fall asleep at random? I fell asleep two times sitting up reading today. I would love to cook in a crockpot as I have a large one and a small one

I have never used or wanted an Instapot or a pressure cooker. I am afraid of pressure cookers as it is easy for them to explode. I currently have my stove with oven, microwave oven, crock pot, George Foreman grill, and a 6 slice toaster oven that is still in the original box because I have no room in my apartment for using it. The same with the grill as I have nowhere to use that either. In the past I have used electric skillets and smaller toaster ovens. I also currently have an electric roaster as my oven is not large enough for using my large roaster. I use the electric roaster for Thanksgiving and Christmas so I can roast turkeys and large hams.

@just4him That's good. Yes, I wanted the name branded Instant Pot too, as it has the features I want, although this pot is a good substitute it is missing some helpful features.

@snowy22315 Thank you. When I bought it, I thought it was an Insta Pot. It's what I wanted. When I got it home, I found out it was a crock pot and pressure cooker. I finally figured out how to use the cooking features. At least my last pot roast turned out well in it.

I have a smaller pressure cooker pot that Mike's mom gave us. I have used it a time of two. Our bigger one I use when I can vegetables. Don't have and not really interested in an insta pot. His Mom got one a couple years ago and she has used it a few times. She likes using her air fryer, we do too. We use ours almost everyday.

I use a regular pressure cooker daily. I can't do without it. It's very handy and quick in our traditional cooking. Quick to pressure cook lentils, legumes, boil potatoes etc. I have a rice cooker that I use but not so frequently. I mostly cook my rice in pot over gas stove.

@arunima25 Yeah, I didn't want to go through the hours to cook thing. I didn't know they were used so much by Indian households. Thanks, for telling me something I didn't know.

@snowy22315 I cook lentils or legumes daily for our meals. They are the major source of protein in our time. They need pressure cooker cooking, else they might take hours to get cooked. Pressure cookers are there in every Indian household.

Yes, I have your standard slow cooker too. I like that and use it more than the instant one .I didn't want to spend half the day soaking beans though., Or doing it overnight.

I have an instant pot and use it quite often. Anything with lentils or beans does really well in the instant pot. I was a bit wary of it at first because I can remember the old ones with the weight on the top and lots of hissing and being told not to touch it!

Yes, the real instant pot brands have a variety of fun features on them..including a yogurt maker right on the pot.
