Does Anybody Have Tooth Implants?

United States

I have wondered how painful that would be. I mean don't they drill right into your gum and plant a steel root in there? That sounds no fun to me. Plus lighting could blast your mouth out.

I think so, unless you get permanent dentures. You still have someone drilling down your bone, hopefully you're given painkillers while you recover. I'm more concerned about the cost to be honest.

@RebeccasFarm It's expensive and likely requires maintenance. Oh, the fact you may have to abstain from eating solid food for a while might be another turn off.

My dentist has a poster of that in her office . . . with all those individual teeth implanted, that's a lot of metal there . I don't know anyone I can ask personally about the pain . . . those people in the zillion tv commercials seem awfully happy, but surely there must be pain involved to some degree.

I have never had a tooth implant before. So I don't know if it hurts or not. But the cost is very expensive. I asked the cost because my mother was planning to do it. I hope to hear some information from my friends here.

@RebeccasFarm That's right. She needs to make 4 of them. The cost is quite high. So she is still hesitant.

Yes it seems only one person, her brother had it and it was fine. Oh your Mother might get it? Expensive huh.

It is not a pleasant process for sure OT. I was subject to a failed procedure after waiting 8 months for the bone graft to take for them to insert the steel root. They had to make an incision to put bone stuff in there to grow, but after all that time it did not take. Boy, was I mad for being out the money and time. I wound up getting a permanent bridge which fits nicely, and the fake tooth looks ok. But getting an implant is definitely a hassle.

See, I don't need one, but if I did, I was thinking it might not be a good idea. I am so sorry to know that..Wow the money and the pain of all that DB. I hope you are fine now with the bridge. Such RIP OFFS.

@RebeccasFarm Dental work is the pits. Painful in more ways than one (expensive). Anyway, the bridge kept me from looking like a Beverly Hillbilly.

I know a couple of people that have replaced all their teeth with implants and they seem to be happy but personally I am scared to do it. I have a low tolerance for pain.

A strong magnet can take them all out. I know nothing about how it really works but I do not want anyone messing with my gums drilling in them.

I have wondered about that too. It is about £2000 per tooth implant and doesn't sound like a short or painless procedure

I have to get my wisdom teeth and two other teeth out on June 25. I am more afraid of the IV anesthesia than the teeth pulling. I also have to have a growth on my tongue removed and examined by a pathologist two of those teeth are teeth that broke and my sister and me and my dentist and oral surgeon don't know what we will do to those empty places where they are to be pulled are now
