I did not watch the eclipse today

Did you watch the eclipse today? Could you see it well from where you are? A geocaching friend emailed me last week she is moving and downsizing and wondered if I wanted some extra containers she has. She wanted to get together and visit as well so we planned it for this morning. My little one and I drove an hour to her house and visited for 2 1/2 hours. I found out she creates quilts for a living. Her home is beautiful and my daughter loved her little dog. We had coffee and cookies. I rarely visit anyone so I was nervous but excited and we had a lovely time. She doesn’t watch the news and doesn’t use social media so she didn’t know about the eclipse until that morning and asked if I knew about it. Both of us had experienced eclipses before and didn’t care to watch it. I drove a very short distance up the road after we left to look for one of her new geocaches but the coordinates weren’t leading me to the correct place. The photo is of the really large thorns that grow off the trees at that cemetery. I drove home as the sky started to dark but I never really even needed to turn my headlights on and before I knew it it started getting brighter again. I had a few errands to do around town after dinner and that about sums up my day.

Well, I doubt you could miss it. You just weren't glued to the sky. But you saw it.

@kaylachan I never looked up at the sky one bit but the area around me got slightly darker but really no different then a very cloudy day when the clouds block the sun for a bit.

@kaylachan it didn’t get dark enough to need mine but I do have all day running lights that turn on when my car starts.

@shaggin We had the same here, but if George were driving he might've turned on the headlights.

I think that people who live real life avoiding Internet and social media have a happier life. I am glad you had a good time with this friend. Those thorns are scary.

@LadyDuck the playgroups and coffee groups I started were all started by posting about get together online. That’s how I met many of my friend but lives changed and we weren’t able to get together anymore. There’s definitely good and bad to social media but many times I things it’s good. Especially during corona when we couldn’t see others we could still keep in touch. People used to chat on the phone more than they do now which was a way to connect before instant messaging etc.

@LadyDuck without social media I wouldn’t be married or have many any of the friends I have the last 20 years. It’s been a good thing for me . I hope to be asked to visit her again sometime she’s a lovely person.

@shaggin - I had many friends when I was young, because we went out and met instead of sitting in front of our computers.

If I had not been at work I would have ignored it. I have seen some really cool pictures from others.

@GardenGerty you sound like me. I saw some amazing photos professionals took of it and posted and people shared those on fb but I really didn’t care to see it in person.

@jstory07 oh yes a whole book bag full of them, some decorative tape and more and she had me take the bookbag itself too which will be nice to use on the go when I’m making my geocaches.

@shaggin It would have been too hard for me; and I would have had to drag a chair out there because I can't stand more than a minute.

I love the photo of your thorns there Shanny. Big ones huh. Glad you got to visit with you friend. She sounds a wise lady not using social media. I didn't make a deal out of the eclipse no.

@RebeccasFarm I’ve never seen thorns so big before in a tree. I’ve had ones about half the size hurt me while geocaching. It went in one side of my arm and out the other. Glad I’m not the only one who’s didn’t care about the eclipse .

I did see it too some degree. My sister and I were going thru things in her storage but she had her phone set to go off in fifteen minutes increments. So, we were outside taking turns looking they my solar glasses and her two paper plates. The solar glasses were much clearer for me than the plates. We missed seeing the moon completely over the sun by three minutes but that was okay with me. I've seen a few before and would be willing to see the next but for us it's not for twenty more years. And depending on my health by then it might be safer to watch it in tv, or you tube.

I hope in 20 years you are healthy enough to watch it again. Sounds like you both had a nice time even if you missed the time when it covered the sun completely.

Nope. Count me out plus it was miserably cold and gray out all day. I'm not a fan of cold gusting wind.

@Judyev I was worried I would smash into one with my head if I stood up after looking for the geocache. I was even more nervous my little one would poke her eye on one. I had to watch to make sure she didn’t get to close.

Sounds like you had a great day. I am happy for you. No, I didn't watch the eclipse. I have also seen them before and I don't really care about them that much. I don't really understand what the big hullabaloo was!

It wasn’t a big deal in Florida, but we went out for breakfast after we dropped friends off at the airport. I did tell hubs that it looked dark for FL. So that’s about all we saw of the eclipse. Then it got sunny again.

I did see it using a homemade viewer. It's a cereal box with paper and aluminum foil. I had to get used to looking through it, but it was pretty cool. But I didn't get to see the whole thing because of clouds.
