Colonoscopy & Endoscopy today. I'm nervous....

I'm sorry I'm still quite behind here. I will catch up as soon as I can. Besides not being here for such a long time, this month has been really busy and stressful with tests. Not long ago I had the scary MRI and now today it's both a Colonoscopy and Endoscopy. I've never had either of these before and I'm nervous. As of right now I only have 20 more minutes left until I can drink anymore water and then I have to stop. I'm hoping there's enough fluids in my body to replace "what I've lost" if you get what I mean. (have to be "cleared out" before colonoscopy.) I have a big headache and have done since yesterday. I just want this all over with not only because I'm scared but because I want to eat and hopefully that will help my headache and nausea. Appointment is at 12:30pm so it's not that far away. Has anyone ever had a colonoscopy and / or endoscopy before?

I’ve had them both at the same time. I joked for the doctor to do the endoscopy first in case he got the tubes confused. The worst thing about a colonoscopy is the prep. You sleep through the actual procedure. I pray everything went well and they found nothing!

@FourWalls Thank you so much for your comment. I'm happy to finally hear from someone who has had both done at the same time. I recently listened to someone who only had Colonoscopy and she was kind enough to reassure me it will all be ok. But I'm sure nervous about everything. I made the same joke too about not switching the tubes around by mistake. Thank you very much.

Mom had endoscopy several times, she was sleeping through the procedure nothing to be worried about. My husband had a colonoscopy the worst is the prep, as you sleep during the procedure.

I know what's involved. I've done the research. My husband has refused them. They'll knock you out, just like with surgury, which is why the empty stomach. They'll check you over to ensure you're fit for the test. Just breathe, it'll be okay.

@kaylachan Thank you. I appreciate everything you just said but especially the "it'll be okay." That's what I think I need to hear the most right now. Just, thank you!

I have never had either one and I hope I never have to. What is a endoscopy?

An endoscopy (EGD, upper endoscopy) is a tube put down the throat to look at the esophagus and upper GI tract. You sleep through it, just like the colonoscopy. The worst thing about a colonoscopy is the prep. Make sure you have one at 50, because one day of misery is much better than dealing with cancer.

@FourWalls Here they do endoscopy without anesthesia. I saw how it's done and it was torture for people.

My husband went through both a couple of times due to being quite ill. He hated the prep. I hope you have someone to hug you through this.

@sallypup aww thank you! I've had some good support. Some people I have been quite disappointed in if I'm real honest. Just don't seem like true friends especially during things like this. I do hope your husband found answers and is doing better now!

I haven't but Vince has had several of these. I think the preparation is much worse than the actual procedure. Sending heaps of hugs and good vibes to you.

My mother once asked for an endoscopy but the doctor instead suggested an X-ray, each doctor diagnoses it differently.

I've had several colonoscopies. The worst part is before the procedure. The procedure goes quickly and then you can eat. I've never had an endoscopy. I hope both went well.

I had both of them done. My appointment was really early in the morning, and we were there much earlier than we needed to be, but I was like you and just wanted it over with. The patient ahead of me came in late, and the staff was already concerned about their late arrival and not having time to get her prepped and into the OR on time. When they questioned her as to when she ate last, and she said just within the hour, they quickly came to me and said that I was getting moved up into her spot as I was ready and willing. I was so happy when it was over, and starved. My hubs stopped to get me something to eat on our way home, of course the coffee that he picked up for me was the best part of it all, that and being done the test. I hope that you feel better now.

@Juliaacv Oh goodness. Within the hour! I am glad they quickly came to you to let you know you were next. Not that it takes long but as you said, you were ready to get it over and done with and hungry! So soon the better! Thank you. Still getting there. Something still doesn't feel right with my body but I think it's all coming together finally. Hopefully. Thank you.
