What are You Good At

Everybody enjoys something, whether it's sports related, craft related, music related, or family related. Tell me what your favorite thing to do is and follow it with your second favorite thing. Some of you who know me, know I love to write. I've been writing since I was eight-years-old. Long time, I know as I'm 70 now. It means I've been writing for 62 years. However, I didn't start writing to publish until 44 years ago. That's when Scarred became a story on paper, not the computer, written with a pen, not a keyboard. I published Scarred in 2012, thirty-two years later. For me, the rest is history with nine books published and another I'm getting ready to publish this year. What you might not know, is that the second thing I love to do is sew. I love making new clothes, but I haven't done so in a very long time. The last time I tried to thread a needle, my bifocals made it impossible. And the third thing I love doing is cooking and baking. I love making a full meal for friends and family. What has been hard for me is telling others what to contribute to the meal. I like to prepare the entire meal. However, it's good to let others bring something besides themselves. Now tell me what your favorite thing is. Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me. A dress I made by hand without a sewing machine.

I remember Lincoln Logs and tinker toys. They were fun. Lagos is fun too. I didn't know you loved technology. It's something you need today with as important as it is in society today.

You're an interesting person. I write. I play with yeast dough- too much sometimes. I garden. I love to create yard art from thrift store finds. I like to take photos with my little camera. I love to walk trails- makes me sad that I can't hike the way I did. I am a devoted fan of the Hobbit and his need to wander tree lined trails. I am a bird watcher.

You're an interesting person too with your way of finding thrift store items to create beautiful yardwork. Walking the trails is so much fun. So much to see and take pictures of. I just started walking trails in the last ten years. Bird watching must give you hours of fun. I love the Hobbit too.

@just4him There's a town in northern WA state- I was born there- that has a small mountain right outside it. When I was much younger I spent many happy hours hiking those trails with my husband and dog and sometimes my Mom and sisters. Those switchbacks and uphill climbs really wore us out but so much beauty. One trail in particular led to a look out point. You could look down and down through the fir trees and see way below to the Puget Sound, an inner part of the Pacific. I miss those days.

I'm glad you're resourceful and can figure things out. Being a good conversationalist is wonderful. I'm good at yakking too. I don't know how good a conversationalist I am though. Yes, I've been sewing since I was in high school when I learned in Home Ec class.

I learned how to do crafts with my hands but maynly because I needed to have beautiful things at low prices. I liked the results, not the making of them. I stayed home or worked helping my husband while the kids were small untill I found out that some old bearded young men that came to my house started to call me "aunt". JEEEZZZ!!! So I asked myself The exact question you are asking me and All I loved was to read and write. So I joined the university again and studied literature while I started again to write in a more formal way. I wrote books, taught at the university and conducted literary workshops.

That is good to know. I didn't know you started writing so young, that's great. I started in high school and writing poetry was my first thing I loved to do. Photography was next in line, and then the art... I do like to cook/bake too but I hate the clean up part so I don't do it very often.

@just4him I wrote so many poems over the years. Enough that I self published a book, which included 2 short stories. Well I didn't know if many knew about the photography because I've mostly shared my art.

My dad started me on writing poetry when I was 8. After I discovered I loved poetry and writing, When dad passed I sort of inherited the talent from him since he was a popular Latvian poet and writer. Now I am glad I can write and post online. I got two poetry books published. I love to cook but I make only easy thing for myself now, You might find this interesting what I wrote about my dad on WordPress.

That's so cool that you made that dress without a sewing machine. I can't keep a needle threaded. I love diamond painting. I also like to color. I used to love playing a clarinet and writing stories. I also love to read books. I hope to start a that new craft needle felting soon.

Thank you. I've seen what diamond painting entails. You do well to do that. I like coloring too, but don't do it often. You have a few good things you do.

You have a lot of talent. I like what you are good at. How I wish I could write as good as you. I like writing too but I don’t think I am good at it. I think I am good at baking and sewing than writing. It’s been 30 years since I last sewed a dress for myself.

That dress is amazing. All of the things that I like best I can't do anymore except for writing and reading. I used to love doing all kinds of needlework -- needlepoint, embroidery, etc.; and I loved to cook. Have a good day.

my mum always told me i have a good talent of writing important emails and news articles; i studied journalism so we had to write a lot of news articles. not sure if she was objective i think i have a talent of making people comfortable around me and a small sense of humour. not sure is it a curse or a good eye but i do spot some things that others don't too. that's all i could think about for now. i didn't know you sew; that isn't easy.

It's good you have a talent for writing. It's not an easy career. I'm glad you know how to make people feel comfortable and have a good sense of humor. I don't find sewing difficult. Now, perhaps with these bifocals, but not when I was actively sewing.
