4/16/24 - Update on My Husband

My husband did 3 more passes on the rails and walked on his own. The physical therapy techs hold onto his belt and follow with a chair behind him; but they were not supporting him as he walked. He says the food hasn't been too bad; but it's still too salty. He's supposedly on a heart diet; so that makes no sense! He keeps asking for little things around the house. His cousin will have to come and do some running around for me. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I am glad to know that he is improving. Salty food for someone with heart problems is not normal. With his problem he should reduce the sodium intake.

@LindaOHio I think so, salty food is very bad for him.

Yes, the dietician should be doing something about that.

It is early in the week that he is doing so well with his walking. Hopefully they will start him on the stairs this week, logically that would come next. The mystery of the salty tasting food is quite a dilemma, given that he should be on a low sodium diet.

I wonder if he has some kind of a mineral imbalance that is making his food taste extra salty. He is making good progress, and poor guy just wants to be at home.

I don't know. He did ask me to get some vitamins for him. He's getting sores in his mouth. Maybe Vitamin C deficiency?

Has anyone there started to talk about discharge planning? What are you going to do about the steps?

@LindaOHio So, what is the construction project you were talking about? Is it a hand rail?

@snowy22315 Yes. We also want to redo the steps in the garage to make them less steep. Haven't started on that yet.

They've called me; but PT has given him no time line. We only have 3 steps.

Good grief. The dietician at the facility I was in had no idea what a healthy diet should be. The food they'd bring me was always too salty and when I requested tuna salad I was asked if it was ok to put onion in it so I said yes, they brought me a plate of tuna with onions only, not even mayo or anything else

You'd have to talk to the dietician if there is one.
