What is your favorite color?

I often get asked that question by the kids I work with. I suppose they're just expressing what's on their minds, and trying to get to know me better. I respond honestly: It's a tie between green and blue. Green reminds me of pretty hills and blue reminds me of blue sky. I love hiking on a sunny day. But then I stroke my chin and say: But I also really like purple. I like my purple shirts, and I think it's pretty. What are your favorite colors? I suppose my intent is to encourage my young charges to examine their own thoughts and preferences. Psychologists might call it "meta-cognition." But of course I just want the conversation to continue. Do you have favorite colors? What are the reasons for your preferences, if any? Photo is one you've seen before: Mt. Diablo with snow about 14 months ago, with green hills in the foreground and blue skies in the background.

Interesting that you like both blue and green. I've been musing about getting my barn house painted. I realized that the green that attracts me is kind of a greeny blue.

@TheHorse It is white with gray trim now. Its 124 years old. A cheerier color is in order.

For the longest blue was my favorite color. These days it’s harder to choose just one color.

I thought the same thing as I was driving home this evening. I enjoy them all. But I've always been "easy to please."

I like many colors - and it depends on what. Maybe it's the artist in me?

I suppose it depends on context for me. I like vivid contrasts in nature (sometimes), but I like muted clothing.

@TheHorse I like a blue sky, but I would never wear something blue, because it's not a color that goes well with me. I look sick wearing blue.

@LadyDuck I often wear blue jeans. And blue button downs when I teach college. But most of my t-shirts are not blue.

Ah, you like more muted colors, while I tend to like "bold" colors and contrasts.

I started out in life loving everything that was blue, Then I switched to red and pink, and now I love all the shades of Purple. Get it? I am in my twilight years and that means purple,

I've always been drawn to blue. Most of my clothes are shades of blue and although I like other colors I tend to pick blue before anything else.

Usually, I answer this question with royal blue and royal purple. But when I paint, I often start with green and have lots of greens in the paintings along with blues, pinks, and purples. I love bright colors. I still like magenta and violet red a lot as I did in childhood. I think it all depends on the mood I am in.

I'd have to look at my favorite paintings to see if what I say is really true. When it comes to art, I mean.

My Mum loved green as she was a very keen gardener. I like red I guess but I like other colours too. I do like clear bright colours rather than 'muddy' ones.
