Bad storms all around me now.

We have a lot of wicked storms in my area. They were just heavy thunderstorms, but now some tornadoes have developed as well. I always worry...they can, and have, often caused so much damage and destruction and yes, lives.
I do not have a basement where I live, we do the best we can. Ten years ago, my area was hit by a horrible tornado that pretty much destroyed most of a village not far from my own place, just a few miles away. It took them so long to rebuild..and was simply heartbreaking. A person just can't help but worry a bit...or a lot!
Picture, Daily Illini, of the tornado I described from years ago.
We almost always get the same warning~~
HAZARD...Tornado.
SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.
IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.
It's not here yet, we have some time to see what it will do. Might be power outages. Time will tell!

Honestly, I am not scared. We are getting small hail so far and that’s all. All we can do is hope that it blows through the outlying fields rather than dwellings and towns!! Thank you, Amber!!

It seems the worst of it has passed. We had some more hail. Now it’s just super windy and blowing hard rain. Way better than a tornado!! Thanks!!

@MarieCoyle Thank goodness! Definitely a thunderstorm would be tame compared to a whirling tornado. Glad you are ok and safe!!

It looked like it was headed straight for us, and it veered away! We got lucky! Now we just have thunderstorms, big thunder and lightening, but hey...that's nothing compared to what we could have gotten. Thank you!!

I have seen firsthand just what a tornado can really do in no time. I watch the weather when one is approaching or we get a watch or warning. No one has time to prepare when it’s already arrived! Thank you so much.

I hate storms like that. We've had our fair share of close calls. And, as a general rule basments are a rare thing here.

I know that basements in Florida are extremely rare. Here in the Midwest, there are many people who have both finished and unfinished basements. Personally, I do not miss having one, just too many stairs!

I hope you don't get more bad weather. I will be more than happy if you have beautiful weather for tonight.
we have been getting more storms than usual. On Wednesday I was surprised by a storm in the evening because I stopped paying attention to the weather. After all, it was causing me anxiety.
I read my email on Thursday and found 8 warnings for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms I never guessed about from Wednesday. I watched old comedies on cable all day Wednesday!
if I don't watch or read the weather I am fine because I have no anticipation and anxiety waiting for it to happen.
Have a beautiful day!

I keep my eye on the weather because I have to get out and care for my son. Plus he has endless medical appointments and that is usually 8-10 miles away if we have to go to the hospital for tests. So it’s just a good idea for me to do that. I usually take the interstate, but if we have high winds I take another route, because sometimes the wind here is bad, and those big semi trucks have been known to roll over on the road. So I just like to stay informed about wind!
It’s really flat country in this part of the state, which makes wind bad at times.

We really have a lot of windy days here. This is the flattest part of Illinois. I've lived in the mountains of Montana, I must say they were a lot more picturesque and just plain beautiful, but hey, this is home and most of my family is here. I do love the area I live in.

@MarieCoyle I can see that then. I don't go out very often and only have to care for my cat. I have a mobile vet who visits our house so I don't have to take him anywhere.
we have been getting bad wind lately. But we are all hills so I wonder if it is less windy. I don't know as I have no frame of reference of wind in other places. I live on the third of a set of very steep hills
have a super day!

@MarieCoyle Kitty is sitting at my feet. We could have a massive earthquake at any moment. It's all a part of life, I suppose.

I was in California during Northridge. We have smaller quakes here, but you can keep the biggies out there, they are so scary!

I have been in one that people nearby did not survive, either. It's not a good feeling at all.

The weird thing about tornadoes is that they have a tendency to often veer off in an unexpected direction. We didn't get it, so we got lucky.

Our weather guy just got done saying later this coming week we could possibly have some more wild weather. Oh, well...at least, we know it's very possible. Back in the''olden'' days, no one had a clue.

Oh, we had some big, big booms! Shook the ground. But all the really bad stuff didn't hit us, just some hail a few different times, wind, and rain. Thank you, Linda.

We escaped. It hit very close by, but all is well here. More storms due toward the end of the week, time will tell. We always seem to have more of them in the spring.

Stay safe there. I saw there were bad storms in and around St. Louis, and maybe you got hit with that line.

South and west of me were the worst ones. We did have some hail and big winds and rain, but it's gone now. Yes, that was a long line of storms and it was the same system. Thank you, Snowy.

The storms didn't hit as bad here as they could have, they veered away from us at the last, we were very fortunate. Thank you, Julia.

There was some damage fairly nearby, but it was from big winds. Some metal buildings, trees, etc. I know one highway was closed for awhile so debris from the storms could be removed. Thank you, Eva.
