We’re starting the new month off in grand style. For the merry, merry month of May it’s songs that are 50 years old this year. Wow. Where did the decades go? And, just to prove what a year of great music it was, I begin the month with the alphabetical part of the list…and my favorite song by this band, which isn’t in the top ten for the year! The Ballad of Curtis Loew - Lynyrd Skynyrd Yes, I’ve used it before. I’ll use it again. This song is amazing. The tale of a white boy sneaking off to see a local alcoholic blues singer, collecting soda bottles to cash them in (for you kids: there used to be a 3c deposit on soft drink bottles back then, to prevent littering), and giving the money to Curtis for music. “The the day he lost his life, that’s all he had to lose” is a great line and the truth about so many fabulous musicians that nobody ever heard of except a few locals. The Ballad of Curtis Loew Written by Allen Collins and Ronnie Van Zant Recorded by Lynyrd Skynyrd From Second Helping, 1974 I got your drinkin’ money:

@FourWalls Didn't Bully Joel or someone do a Song called Piano Man or something like that? It did nothing for me. But Jerry Jeff Walker wrote a Song about a dancer I liked.

It's incredible how music has a way of transporting us back in time. And who can blame you for revisiting "The Ballad of Curtis Loew" by Lynyrd Skynyrd? It's a classic that deserves to be celebrated again and again. The storytelling in the song is simply captivating, painting a vivid picture of a bygone era. Here's to honoring the musical legends of yesteryears and the timeless melodies they gifted us. Cheers to May and the magic of music!

That’s them. I saw a crude drawing of you yesterday. Not a good likeness, except for the crown.
