I Fell Friday Night

United States
May 5, 2024 9:01am CST
Friday night, as I got off my bed in a hurry, I fell on the floor by my rocking chair. My son heard the fall and came in to try and assist in helping me up.. I've never felt so helpless. He was trying to pull me up, by my arms, I wasn't comfortable with that. So I crawled to my rocking chair, and pulled myself up on it, and got up. When you get to be 75 you really see how age can make you feel so helpless. I usually walk and move swiftly, but after that, and that feeling of helplessness, for sure I'll slow it down.

I am so sorry, I am 73 and I am noticing that getting up from the floor is no more as easy as it used to be.

@popciclecold And having someone lifting us by our arms does not help at all.

Slow down, don’t hurry! I am glad you didn’t hit your head or break any bones. But I know that we get bruised when we fall. If you have to go slower, so be it. Just be safe.

You were lucky you weren't hurt. Falling is something I dread and would probably have a very hard time trying to get back up.

@popciclecold Some fall can be devastating. My grandaunt is 97 years now. She was active with some limited mobility till 96 years before she had a fall and got a hip fracture. Now, she is confined to her bed. But it's inspiring to see that even from bed, she is keeping herself engaged and productive. Her brain is still active and she is following a routine. She has translated a few books in different languages and got them published in the last one year..she is an inspiration. And knows 24 languages including the Indian languages and some foreign ones.

You did right, it is safer to pull up on a piece of furniture like a chair. I am glad your son heard you, though. I find I have slowed down a lot in the last year.

@popciclecold I am with you there. I am younger than you but if I fall I have to do a ton of stuff to get me up. Bad knees- putting weight on them is like a painful falling from a cliff.

So glad you are okay. With this Vertigo I realize I have to be more careful. Growing up, I could not understand why old people were so slow but steady. Now that I am old...I Totally understand. Happy that you had someone there to help you.
