Free Carved a Bud Vase

Canada

I usually turn them on the lathe but to challenge myself I decided to make one with just a knife. (I did use a drill to make the hole). I was thinking of a trumpet-like flower for the opening but that isn't really what I ended up with. Still, I think I managed to make something beautiful. I will push for something more flower-like in a future project. I have to keep expanding my skills. I did put it up for sale on Etsy. We'll see if it garners any interest. Sales are pretty flat right now anyway.

Thank you I hope it attracts a buyer. In the meantime, I'll be whittling a different one on my work breaks.

@koopharper I have tried whittling, but the wood I use never works for me. What do you use?

@koopharper i just started, plus I think I got too cheap a set of carving tools. I just found a knife I think might work

That looks very nice. I hope it sells for you. I should think it would be quite tricky to carve with a knife.

It had its challenges. I will continue to push my skills. In the future, I'll try to cut more of the material away with a saw first. The knife was really slow going.

I hope so too. It'd give me a bit more impetus to keep working at it.
