WE ARE THERE FOR A REASON

Two years back, I happened to get in touch with a childhood friend of mine. It was after two decades. Her mother had passed away and she was living with her husband and son. When we met at her residence, I found her still the same though age and weight had added to her years. It was some time around Covid, that she mentioned she was going through a very rough patch after her husband had met with an accident, leaving her financially bankrupt. Post surgery, medicines had gobbled up most of her savings. She wanted to get her son admitted in a prestigious school and requested, if I could help financially. As it was a good amount, I resorted to crowdfunding. Though a few friends helped, the amount did not come up anywhere near the sum required. It was then that I approached a school friend of mine, settled in Dubai. He had always been a good friend and a well wisher in school, helped me with basketball practice, a good athlete and had a good sense of humour. He deposited the money in my account in no time. I forwarded the same to her account. The admission done, now after two years, her son passed the Board exams with outstanding marks. The boy is a very good student and deserved this help. What I see is a chain that we form to help each other. We are there for a reason.

I am glad that you could start a crowdfunding to help this young man. I hope to think that we are here for a reason.

I tried crowdfunding but didn't get much response so as to open an account. Actually, people notice when there is a larger group of such people.

@LadyDuck What I have gathered is that, you need to have a project which you want to work on. Say, for example, you need to provide free medical aid to destitutes in your area, or say open a primary school entirely run by you. There are legalities which are required to be followed. Initially, before you start, you can ask your friends, relatives, acquaintances, colleagues to donate after having shared part of what you have in mind. Once you start functioning, operating on the desired project, you'll have to keep records of the systematized way of its operation with evidence, in the form of photos/videos etc.. It is then that you can showcase it, in certain sites where air funding or crowdfunding is allowed with a new bank account number.

Not always do wealthy friends are willing to help. There were many whom I contacted, but they didn't respond.

Indeed. And I'll share something here. When I met him at their residence, for a brief moment, I happened to get a glimpse of him, with a French- cut beard and thick- rimmed glasses, in an expensive suit, reminiscing something, somewhere 35 years down the line--- his future self, or... it could be my imagination.
