50-Year-Old Songs: I’ve Got a Thing About You Baby

Watching the severe weather in Oklahoma last night, I’m keenly aware of what’s on tap for us. I have my plan, which includes a safe place in the house, a bicycle helmet to cover my head (a good majority of tornado deaths are due to blunt force trauma to the head), and my 400 weather apps. Meanwhile, let’s sing! Here’s another song that’s turning 50 this year. I’ve Got a Thing About You Baby - Elvis Presley That means this year marks 47 years since Elvis died. Wow. As with a lot of very popular people, you’ll find my tastes in Elvis a little different from “the norm.” While this was a good-sized hit for Elvis when it was released in 1974, it’s largely been forgotten these days. (I did find a “remix” on You Tube, but it can’t beat the original in my books.) Written by the great Tony Joe White (of “Polk Salad Annie” fame [which Elvis also covered), this has a great bass line opening. It shows Elvis could adjust his music with the times (this is more “soulful” than his early rock hits). It also shows that Elvis is timeless. This still sounds good.
