50-Year-Old Songs: Killer Queen

Last night we had an EF-0 tornado just north of the metro area, out of a storm that wasn’t 20,000 feet tall. No injuries, thank God. The meteorologist on TV said that it goes to show you that storms in this kind of soupy atmosphere will do what they want. I will, too, and what I want to do is give you another song that you’ll probably hear on “classic rock” radio today without giving thought to the fact that it’s now 50 years old. Killer Queen - Queen Fastidious and precise! Now that is a line! And this was Queen’s first hit in the U.S. It set the pace for what we could expect from the band: unusual subject matter (this is about an “exclusive” hooker), amazing guitar work from Brian May, and their blended voices. There was only one Queen; and, unlike a lot of other popular bands, nobody tried to emulate their sound. That would have been impossible.
