We have a problem

There is a rat in the bathroom. One of my cats really wants to eat the bait. He is opening the door and I am afraid that he will be trapped in that trap instead of that rat. I have no idea what to do. He opened the door three times. And he really wants to steal the bait. The door can't be locked because it's old and doesn't have a key. My cats are so smart that they open almost all doors. At night he will be near the door and who can stop him? If we put the cat in a room he will open the door and he gets out of the room.

I would freak out if there was a rat anywhere near my house. I would call a professional exterminator. I wouldn't care how much it cost.

House Cats normally don't hunt rats to eat, they will play with them and that is as far as it goes. I was checking my natural repellant books and found that rats don't like the smell of peppermint, it's too strong for them. Also if there is a hole that he might have come in through in the bathroom you can plug it up with steel wool (like you get for scouring pots and pans, the actual curly metal stuff). I'll do some more research and see what I can come up with. I love the peppermint idea, the cats won't go near the stuff, the smell is too strong!!! Back to checking.

This cat is so stubborn and obsessed with that food. I need to find a solution. I used a glue trap before for cockroaches and he didn't give up until his paw was stuck in the glue. I think he will do the same thing this time. But this trap will hurt him. He tries to eat the bait.

Do you have push handle or turn nobs. if your doors are push handle, replace them with lock-free turn nobs.
