A Rapid City Firefighter whose last name was Fyke answered an emergency call from the owner of a cat whose gender was not revealed who climbed a tree on Friday May 3 needed to be rescued by the firefighter. Firefighter Fyke used a firefighter ladder to rescue the cat, bring him back to the ground and reunite the cat to its grateful owner of Friday evening. I am sure that the cat was fleeing from a dog or another animal when the cat ran up the tree and needed help to come back to the ground since cats cannot climb down trees. I’m always surprised just got many cats firefighters actually do rescue, and am grateful they don’t find that beneath them.

Probably the cat was being chased by a dog.

The cat seemed to be a long way up there. Let's hope that it was not after some bird's eggs in a nest, that it spied there. Owners should really control their cats more, as this type of happening happens too often, and is an expensive exercise for the firemen to have to do, when they would rather be back at the depot, waiting for a real fire to happen.

You have a good there about the firefighters having to rescue cats at the same time a fire would break out.

I am glad the cat was rescued. Sometimes they like to climb trees. The stray cat we feed climbed trees often.

Good point since my cat Burt climbed a tree when he was being chased by a dog.

Cats are such silly animals, they love to climb but it's hard for them to get down. I am glad this cat has been rescued.

@Deepizzaguy They do not realize they do not arrive to get down.

That is true that cats are silly by climbing trees.

It seems to be an occupational hazard with cats - getting stuck in trees.

I'm glad the cat was rescued. I'm always surprised that fire departments take time out for this.

I know what you mean since some firefighters in smaller towns usually do not answer the emergency call to rescue which leads the owner of the cat to ask an animal rescue group to rescue the cat.
