Pre-diabetes

Six months ago I had to have blood work done at the drs office and it was detected that I have pre-diabetes. Late last month I had to have blood work again to check on the pre-diabetes. It kinda down hearted me bcuz the levels were exactly the same. I tried so hard, switching to zero sugar sodas, not eating bread unless it was keto, I lost about 5 lbs but I know I need to lose so much more. So, on days it rains I ride my little stationary bike and on days it doesn't rain I walk. Here's hoping for a healthier blood work in November!

I hope you find a way to be more successful, although losing five dollars is a positive. Is there any way you can cut all soda? My aunt cut her Coke Zero out and she lost weight. Her doctor told her it wasn’t making her gain weight, but it was keeping her from losing any more. Apparently sugar substitutes have an affect on us too. Now, I’m not telling you to do it because I myself have to at least have some kind of carbonated beverage. I thought I’d just point it out in case you happened to be like my aunt. You trying is a start. Some people are content to just continue bad health habits, and you are not.

@marymary621 It’s one of the tougher things I’ve ever tried to give up.

I'm trying and yes, it's hard. Those carbonated beverages can be very hard to give up. Up until covid I never gave over 2$ for a 2 liter bottle and now those same bottles are reaching towards 5$. So yes, I'm drinking less but I'm not completely off of them.

@AmbiePam oh definitely. The headaches and listlessness that happens when you first get off of soda is crazy.

I hope your diet helps. Some of the pills they give have bad side effects.

@marymary621 Sometimes doctors prescribe Metformin before they try with a reasonable diet.

They put me on a pill, I can't think of the name of it, but it made me so sick I literally felt like if I continued to take it I would die. I went back to the dr and told him what it was doing to me. He told me to stop taking them and we would just watch how the diabetes either progressed or regressed.

I quit drinking soda. I drink tea and flavored water. I had to quit because I discovered that I have high blood pressure and I had Hepatitis C.

@dya80dya That's so sad :( I hope he comes to realize he needs to take care of his body before it's too late.

My Mum had pre-diabetes, and she had to cut down on her sugar. But it's very hard because there's sugar in almost everything. We had to keep reading the labels on everything and buy no added sugar cereals, biscuits, sweets and chocolate!

@marymary621 I know what you mean. You can hardly get anything that doesn't have sugar in it.

That's great that you are five pounds healthier. I'm working on a similar path but going the Vegetarian route and trying to force water down my throat.

It's tough to hear that your efforts haven't resulted in the changes you were hoping for in your blood work, especially after making significant adjustments to your diet and lifestyle. Pre-diabetes can be a challenging condition to manage, but it sounds like you're taking proactive steps to improve your health. It's commendable that you've been committed to making healthier choices like switching to zero sugar sodas and following a keto-friendly diet. Losing 5 lbs is a significant achievement, and it shows that your efforts are making a difference, even if the results weren't as dramatic as you'd hoped. Incorporating exercise into your routine, rain or shine, is a fantastic approach to improving your overall health and managing pre-diabetes. Whether it's riding your stationary bike on rainy days or going for walks when the weather is clear, every bit of physical activity adds up and contributes to your well-being. Remember, progress takes time, and every step you take towards a healthier lifestyle is a step in the right direction. Keep up the dedication and perseverance, and hopefully, you'll see even more positive changes in your next round of blood work. Wishing you all the best for improved health and success in November!
