Si vis pacem, para bellum (“If you desire peace, prepare for war”) is a Latin proverb. It is not known who created this proverb, but many believe that it was quoted from the Roman military writer Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus: Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. The main idea of this saying can be found in Law VIII of Plato 347 BC and Epaminondas 5 of Cornelius Nepos.
