A day like today, Captain William Kidd was hanged.

In 1701, after a trial that ended by deciding that he was a pirate, Captain Kidd was hanged. Hangings still occur in this world we live in. But what shocked me was that he was then exposed in the Thames river for 3 (three) years That is something I just can´t imagine. Friends, we are beasts! Did you know that we still have pirates around? When My friend Humberto brought the sailing ship Halcyon from Panama to Chile, there were several ports that denied them an entrance. The reason was that there were too many pirates around and the port did not have guards to check the ship. Friends, the Halcyon was the ship where I had a holiday in Gunayala, Panama, years ago. The sailing boat was so small that there were 3 "rooms" and one small one for the crew elsewhere. I slept in one. I had to jump into my bed as there was no "side" of the bed. And as I have long legs, I had to close the bedroom door to use the bathroom with an open door. Now, where would pirates hide there? We were 5 adults plus Ariel, Humberto and Dixie´s eldest grandson, then 9 or 10. Humberto wrote the chronicles of this last trip and they were hungry some days as they could not go to a land at some places to buy groceries. Dixie was very happy but Humberto soon put on all the weight he had lost. How is it where you live?

I didn't know William Kidd hung for three years at the Thames River. I knew they hung him. I'm sorry they denied Humberto to enter the port because of pirate activity. Yes, I know there are still pirates. I hope you had a good day.

Humberto is editing his chronicles now. I´m trying to persuade him to give them to an editor to be sold. He is an amazing writer.

@just4him He told me that he would also write about the trip to Gunayala years ago. Now that he is half retired, he has decided to write about his voyages.

I’m sure you could have hidden 50 or 60 midget pirates on board of a small boat. We have a baseball team in America called the Pirates. They’re too bad to play baseball, let alone pillage. Seriously, there are videos on YouTube of ships being attacked by Somalian pirates…and with the firepower on the ships, it doesn’t bode well for the pirates.

Years ago I read that ages ago, the animals and birds people hunted were then hung by their neck. When the body fell off they were ready to eat. I can imagine that man, so rotten that his body fell off his head.

@marguicha — some people thought leaving the bodies (or the heads) on display was a deterrent to crime. Um….nope.

Yes, we sure do still have pirates. I think that might be what happens to some people who are lost on boats out at sea. Pirates come along and pillage and kill them. Not able to get into port for groceries, huh? Poor guy!

@marguicha ........That would be hard to be out at sea and unable to get groceries due to the weather.

The Halcyon is a small sailing ship. So they could not buy many groceries at one time.

You're right about people being beasts. Those sound pretty cramped quarters.

When I went with them to Gunayala I had one room only for me but the bed filled the whole room.

I've seen movies about the Somalian pirates. There are areas where you don't dare sail. Have a good day and weekend.

I find pirate stories fascinating. Many different famous pirates like Blackbeard, Of course, also all the Hollywood movies Pirates of the Caribbean made it interesting,
