Pumpkin's Positive Post: Happy Days

Turtle Bay meal, dessert, drinks
United Kingdom

Hello again. I hope you are all well. Tomorrow (Saturday) will be my husband's birthday. It's not a 'big' one but I like to celebrate. He's not really too bothered about it, although I think he appreciates whatever I do for him and understands my reasons for wanting to celebrate these things. He went to open his birthday cards this morning. I reminded him that it's not his birthday until tomorrow. He had forgotten what day it was. I don't mind if he wants to open his cards, that's up to him, but he has decided to leave it until tomorrow. I took a couple of days off work (yesterday and today) so we could do something nice. With his birthday being on a bank holiday weekend, we thought it would be best to do something on a weekday! Yesterday (which was Thursday), we went to another town. It's easy and fairly quick to get to by train. We went to a restaurant there called Turtle Bay. There is one of those in our nearest city, which would be nearer, but we prefer the further away town because it's nicer. The picture I have shared is of the meal I had (Trini chicken curry), my dessert (caramelised sweet plantain with coconut ice-cream), cocktails (I think they were called Island Ice Blast), and a picture looking out of the restaurant window. That meal was lovely. We then popped into another place that we had passed on the way. It was a bar and restaurant that I'd passed a view times before but never gone in. It is an award-winning place. It was lovely there. We sat outside, which overlooks a river. We then had another hour to kill. Husband dragged me away from a gaming cafe because he said I'd spend too long choosing what to play so we went to another pub, which was one that my husband likes. We sat in their garden with a coffee before heading back to the train station. We had fun on the way home. We were one station away from home when there was a technical hitch with the train. I told my husband they should turn it off and on again. Once they had gone through all of their technical stuff, they turned it off and on again, which worked I think my husband had a good day. Today, I've been to the dentist. As we had no plans, I was off work, and was due for a check-up, it made sense. That was first thing in the morning. I then did a bit of shopping and have worked on an article. I bought some things for tomorrow's dinner so I can cook one of my husband's favourites. We're also planning to go for a drink at our local. I am also going to surprise him with a call from our grandchildren. That's always his favourite thing We will often go away for a couple of days for husband's birthday (so far, we have been one to Cardiff, once to Shrewsbury, and three times to Weston-super-Mare). This year, we decided not to go away for his birthday as went to Hastings in February for our eldest daughter's 30th birthday. We also have plans for a few days away for our anniversary in October but that's a surprise for husband. He knows I have planned something but doesn't know what it is. Between then and now, we also have a big holiday planned. We usually go away in England but we're going to Germany in the summer. It will be me, husband, eldest son, and my dad. We asked my dad where he wanted to go (he's never been abroad before) and he said France. Unfortunately, we couldn't find anything suitable within our price range. It didn't help that it will be the Olympics! We ended up choosing a coach trip to Belgium and Germany. While I am not looking forward to travelling by coach, I am looking forward to going somewhere I haven't been before. Before then, though, we also have other birthdays coming up. My youngest son will be 19 in a few weeks. He doesn't want to do anything so we'll probably just have his choice of takeaway at home. I must also remember our niece's boyfriend's birthday this time. She has been with him over a year. I managed to forget his birthday last year, despite it being the same day as my son . My big sister's birthday is two weeks before my son's. Hers is a 'big' one. I have planned something for her, which is happening next weekend. She knows something is happening but doesn't know the details. I believe I have suitably spoilt her as I also got her a gift of a short break (one of those gift pack things where the recipient can choose where to go) and tickets to a local venue to see a music show. That's us for now. My eldest son is currently feeling unwell but hopefully he'll feel better later. He has a maths lesson later (he's teaching but it's all remote and he can rearrange if he needs to). Other son is doing whatever computer/YouTube/game things he is doing. How are you all? What have you been up to? Where have you been?

Happy birthday to your husband. It's my birthday too tomorrow. I think that the turning on and off is the only solution left when nothing else works. Not sure why people leave it for the last . It could save so much of time and effort . Sounds like a happy day. Wishing you both a good weekend and a nice birthday celebration

@pumpkinjam Thank you for your wishes. I don't have any special plans for the day. I want to have a quiet day at home.

Happy birthday to your husband! It sounds like you've planned a wonderful celebration for him. The meal at Turtle Bay looks delicious, and the day out in the town sounds like a lot of fun. It's great that you're able to make his birthday special even without going away this year. Your upcoming trips and celebrations all sound exciting too!

I do like to do exciting things for other people! The meal was absolutely amazing. A little on the expensive side, but I had a gift card that I'd been given so that helped

Happy Birthday to your husband. Sounds like you had a lovely evening out and are looking forward to your trips. I'm sorry your son is not feeling well. I hope he's better soon. I am hanging in there! Went to see my husband yesterday. That's always nice. Not much else going on. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the update.
