Arranged marriages in India have become a more of bargain.

Marriages are made in heaven they say but I don't think so now it's in India, especially arranged marriages which are still prevalent in India. If the girl has a good job, her family wants a groom where the groom should be earning more, should have his own house and his parents shouldn't be staying with him. It would be better if there's no mother-in-law. If there's a mother-in-law, she should be doing all the household work. On the other hand if the groom has a well paid job, the grooms family demands that the prospective bride should be doing a good job, shouldn't be the only child, should have a brother to take financial burden sometimes of his sister and brother-in-law. It would better if the girl doesn't have a mother who wouldn't interfere. Doesn't this look like a bargain rather than a marriage?

it is definitely a bargain, makes me feel really bad. reminds me more of non arranged marriages but with a long list. i think the love is at the last place, with every marriage today.

@grenery8 You are right. My niece had to divorce her first husband because he kept on demanding more even after marriage.

@aninditasen i agree with you. if someone makes several demands, they will put demand on everything.

That's a lot of terms and conditions. I do sometimes worry about the effects brought by arranged marriages. There have been a lot of videos circulating on how the bride and groom treat each other terribly before, during and after the marriage.

A marriage where there's mean bargaining can never be happy.

This kind of bargain should be banned. I think our government should interfere.

I was not expecting with regards to like shouldn't be the only child, and no mother in law. There seems to be lots of term and condition to apply in the marriage.

Youngsters are becoming very selfish these days. They want all the advantages but are not ready to take responsibility.

The arranged marriages we saw in Nepal all seemed to work out very well but I know there are often problems where dowries are involved.

@aninditasen That's what we were told. And the caste system has been outlawed but it is still in place. You can't change some things overnight.

Dowry is still a evil in Indian marriage though it has been declared illegal by the government. The bride and the grooms family strike the deal secretly which leads to trouble later on.

Nowadays, we advocate for free love here, but many parents also interfere with their children's marriages. Some lovers choose to break up due to opposition from their parents.

@zhangxueying It's the same in India. Most families pressurize their sons to get married to earn some fortune through dowry.

@aninditasen In China, the pressure for men to get married is relatively high because girls will require men to give dowries, as well as men to prepare houses and cars

It seems like a business arrangement. I know an Indian guy who lives here although he grew up in India. He was in an arranged marriage for years .never happy with it because their personalities were very different. They ultimately divorced..but..happens alot with so called love matches too..maybe more

In love marriages both hide their attitudes and woo each other which takes a bad turn after marriage but where such bargains take place, I am sure there's no peace.
