Listen to your dog

I was reading an article about an 8-year-old girl who was abducted and only escaped ten years later. Then I clicked on a link where an Algerian man had been held captive for 26 years. His family had believed he’d been kidnapped or killed the Algerian Civil War in 1998. He was found in a sheep pen under haystacks only about 200 metres from where he’d grown up. Of course, there are dozens of such stories but what I found particularly interesting is that, after the kidnapping, his dog had hung around the suspect’s home for at least a month. That should have told the authorities something but perhaps they searched that area but found nothing. Photo is mine of Rosie, a dog that used to visit us on our farmlet.

@JudyEv They can be very territorial over their things. My dog and Jax too hated giving toys back during a game of Fetch.

@JudyEv Maybe there was the fear of fire for humans and herself. I think dogs think humans are fools. Seriously.

All too often dogs are dismissed as being less intelligent then humans but clearly the dog tried to tell them and they just didn't know how to read dog.

Yes, exactly. They should have known something was up if the dog hung around for so long.

That’s so stinking sad. It reminds me of the parrot that would go nuts after a guy would come into the house. No one could figure out why, after years of no problems at all, it would squawk in the presence of that guy, a friend of the parrot’s owner. Turns out the guy was the one who had come into that house and murdered the parrot’s owner a few weeks prior while the wife was out of town.

I read a bout the man but it did not say anything about the dog. I agree that dogs are incredibly intelligent. My first dog followed me from the outside of the house but was always as near to me as she could. Yet she did not like to come inside.

Dogs unlike cats are assets to owners. Their barks of a different kind depending on what they are barking for tell a different story

Dogs are loyal and intelligent. Reminds me of the Movie "Hachi: A Dog's Tale" by Richard Gere.

You should observe a person's dog if a person goes missing. They might know where their owner is.

She would visit occasionally and we'd throw sticks for her. She would never give them back. Funny that, being a border collie, she never showed any interest in the sheep.

such a beautiful dog. yes, human don't take into consideration camera proof and for dog being a witness or a clue, they don't use their grey cells that much but they should

Animals often seem to sense more than we give them credit for, and it’s a shame that the clue from the dog wasn’t enough to prompt a more thorough investigation earlier. It really shows the bond between humans and their pets, doesn’t it?

@JudyEv You're right, Judy! Animals can give us valuable clues if we pay attention to their behavior. It's amazing how they can sense things that we might miss.

Such a cute dog, Yes, I know dogs are very faithful and they should be paid more attention in certain cases, I read that story about the Algerian man and yes, at that time with the dog there they should have turned that property completely around,

I think most animals can communicate more than we give them credit for if we'd only take the time to 'listen' and observe.
