I was thinking this weekend about a young man I once knew. This boy gave his life for our country, during the Viet Nam war Was he my boyfriend? No. Terry V. was a young man that I'd gone out on a blind date with. My friend Leann moved to Bay City and she invited me to spend the weekend with her family. On Saturday night, we double dated with Mark P/Leann and Me, with Terry V. It was a nice evening, we went to the drive-in movie for a few hours. We all had a nice time. The next day was Sunday and I needed to drive back home to East Tawas, Mi. At that time, we were all in the eleventh grade in high school.(1968) I never dated Terry again, but he was a very nice young man. I liked him a lot. After marrying Bruce in 1970, I spotted Terry's obituary in the Bay City Newspaper. He had been tragically killed in a ground attack, after only one month of service in Viet Nam. Terry was nineteen years old, at the time Of course, this saddened my heart, to read about Terry's untimely death:(

So many young men tragically lost their lives in war. They never had the chance to live a life.

@kobesbuddy I hope so. They've certainly earned it.

And there's a special place in God's kingdom, for all those men and women.

I'm glad you got to know him before he went into the military and lost his life in a ground attack.

Terry was a nice young man, I'm sure he's in heaven, with the Lord.

Yes, there were many needless deaths, most of them young soldiers.

Did you ever hear the Paul Hardcastle song “19”? It’s about the Vietnam war, and how the average age of the soldier there was 19.

@kobesbuddy It is sad when young healthy people die for a war that no one would want.

I was shocked when I read this obituary. He was healthy, vibrant and very young.

So sad to read this. So many lives wasted on both sides during that war which should have never happened.

It was a needless display of violence, that sent this nation to its knees.

That's tragic, but at least he tried to defend our country.

Terry was only a boy, so to speak. He joined the Army, during the Viet Nam war.

That is quite sad, even if you only spend an evening with him. The story makes me sad.

My older step-brother served in Vietnam. It was a difficult war.

And the few soldiers who came back to Tawas, are emotional basket cases. My sister married one of these men, Richard attacked her with a baseball bat!
