Trump Humiliated. Why did he go to the Libertarian convention?

Libertarians are an interesting group. They want government out of our lives as much as possible. But I believe they also stand for basic American values. Trump went to Libertarian convention begging for votes, and wound up utterly humiliated--basically booed off the stage I assume many of you have seen this, but I'll attach it anyway. Why did Trump subject himself to this? Do you have any ideas?

I don't really keep up with what's happening as regards politics in the US but I did watch this. He certainly didn't get a very welcoming reception. The US is between the devil and deep blue sea if they only have Trump and Biden to choose between. At least that's how it seems to me.

Biden has had a successful presidency, but I worry a big gust of wind could blow him away.

@JudyEv At least he still make sense when he speaks, even if the dynamic range (a music term, to me) of his speech is near zero.

It is interesting why he went there. I guess people were telling him we have to expand our base or we will not win. They are the closest to Maga supporters. I do not think many people trust libertarians, why no one really takes them serious, but at least we finally saw people stand up for what they believe in. No caving in, no democrats say you have to think this way. I respected it, and glad Trump finally cannot lie his way out of that one.

I think he will find a way to lie. He could claim that there were a bunch of Democratic operatives there.

@Ghostlady I missed the "we want Trump" part. Can you send a link?

They made the MAGA people go to the back rows. The crowd was booing and yelling, but the more he talked the quieter it got, and at the end of the speech, they were chanting We Want Trump. He found common ground with the crowd. He might be a little crude..like a LOT of New Yorkers I have met..BUT he really did have our economy going, and slowed down the border.

Nobody with common sense can have any idea about what Trump does or about why he does it. Probably we´d have to ask a psychiatrist.

@TheHorse I´m sorry, but no. I´m sure that there´s a limit to your knowledge (my own eldest daughter is a psychologist). In this situation we need someone who knows all about the worst mental ailments. Pehaps someoneone with the power to put him in a straight jacket.

@marguicha I know about the worst mental illnesses, including schizophrenia. Trump is a malignant narcissist, and probably a sociopath.

@BarBaraPrz Some say he brought (paid) some of his "fans" to be there, from Florida and other places. But I have not verified this. Either way, it was an abject failure

Maybe because no one else seems to be interested in talking to Libertarians. Biden can't even GET a crowd HALF as big asTrump can. LOL I believe the news people said NO President since Reagan has even acknowledged The Bronx.. Someone said Biden had done such a Good Job..yeah..he is doing a Great job of getting America Invaded, spending money on foreigners with OUR tax dollars when a lot of Americans can not afford a place to live! Taking places and money from Americans to take care of Able Bodied MEN from other countries that should be staying where they are and help change their OWN country. I am not with ANY party..I am a Constitutionalist! And Biden has stepped all over our Constitution! My life and my Friends' lives were a LOT better with Trump than they have been with Biden...For SURE!

I hadn't heard about this, but I just nipped over to YouTube to watch a news report about it. He seems to have got the sort of reception I'd expect. And why in Hades would Libertarians let Trump speak at their convention in the first place?

Trump was trying to get votes, and I think he and Biden will get votes because the Candidate who they nominated is awful.
