The stew: the price of living after you retire.

As I said in another post, the meat from Argentina is the best there is. Usually it is also the most expensive so I buy Chilean meat or meat from Uruguay or Brazil. But the meat I bought was both from Argentina and very cheap. Could it have to do with the problems that Argentina is having? I don´t know everything about politics. But I can spot an insane person when I see one and the president of Argentina does not look mentally sane. When he was om his campaign, he dared say that the Pope (who is also from Argentina) was evil. He very soon had to say that he did not mean those words. Even Argentiniens who aren´t religios love their Pope just because he is "their own". The economic things that he is doing are weird, to say the least. And I won´t talk about his going against Spain now. But what I wonder is, has all of this, and more have to do with the meat at an incredibly low price? I don´t buy much red meat, not because I have problems with eating it. I have problems with BUYING it. I´m retired so my proteins come mostly from eggs and chicken. I also eat canned tuna but it is not the same. Pork is a bit of buxury for me. But a steak is not something I can eat every day. Until yesterday´s delicious and inexpensive stew. Does money have to do with the way you eat? It certainly has to do with the way I do. Money has got into my habits, sometimes for bad and sometimes for good. I used to be a heavy smoker until I became a widow. And my husband had been the mayor provider. So I did my math. And discovered that I was spending more in ciggies than in groceries in a month. And that if I added what I spent in ciggies in a year it was equivalent to the air fare to Aruba. So I said STOP!!! And I did. Maybe I should not add and substract so much. But I pay in full my credit card every month.

I would be facing all sorts of problems if I did not take care of my money. I like to invite people and I like to eat well. And although I don´t use very expensive ingredients, I don´t want to feel that I can´t do something for lack of money.

We eat mostly pork and chicken as they are the cheapest meats here. Beef is expensive and lamb incredibly so.

@JudyEv The money is maybe in the pockets of the people between the farmers and the end buyers.

@marguicha The farmers are getting very little for the sheep but the price of lamb and mutton hasn't gone down.

Good for you quitting smoking! I know that your country has had very bad inflation. It is strange for meat prices to drop very much.

Meat in general has gone up. Only this one from Argentina is cheaper. As for inflation, I don´t think that there´s a lot of inflation here. Other neighborghing countries are much worse so we have a big immigration problem.

Jay has two credit cards. They get paid off each month, he uses them for gas and for food. We don't eat a lot of meat, as we did before. Now we consumer smaller portions and don't buy as much steak or ground beef. Stew is so delicious, over biscuits or corn bread.

I have discovered that as I age I eat a lot less. And I eat less meat although I don´t do it for philosophical reasons. It just doesn´t appeal to me as it did. But when I eat meat, I want the best.

@kobesbuddy I ate a lot when I was young and was never overweighed. I put on some weight after I quit smoking but I ate hard candy nonstop for about a month. I destroyed my teeth then too.

@marguicha And we don't eat like we did, as younger adults. Jay was a big eater, now he isn't.

I'm glad you stopped smoking for many reasons. And you pay your credit card in full each month which is what we do. Excellent! From time to time you are able to buy treats like cake and cheese. Very good planning. Have a great day.

I was very happy. I´ll check on it now that I discovered it and if I find more, I´ll hoard some.

I know. I have always had for essencials but I´m aware that we also need a little bit for some luxury, even if it is only a tiny plant.

I have to stick to a very tight budget and only order groceries once a month so I have to seriously consider what I am ordering, Unfortunately now the very hot weather is coming and I am wondering if I can bet by with more lemonade, soda, and ice cream than other foods because hot food does not sound appealing to me,

Fortunatly I´m not used to sodas and the like. Those are a lot more expensive than water or other liquids you can make.
