Ending on a good note, kind of.

I say kind of, because it's not quite bedtime, but it's late enough. I don't always post this late, but I felt like it tonight. Again, I'm tried but in a good way. George kept asking if it was june. But, I think it's due in part he's excited about seeing the nutrionist. He says he wants his peg tube out. I let Chilly out, and he's happily sleeping at my husband's feet.

I hope George will be able to get his peg tube out on the next visit. Have a good weekend.

He needs to have it taken out by a doctor, but he also has to show he can eat enough by mouth and be weened off of it. He's lucky we were able to get him on bolis feeds before he left in-patient rehab. They had him eating three small meals a day, kind of, before he left. But, he had also lost too much weight while in the hospital, which is why I had to go back to four tube feeds when we got home.

@LindaOHio I haven't decided if that's good or bad. If he was overweight before, then that'll help, but if he wasn't and now he's under, that would put a serious strain on his orgens.

@kaylachan My husband was weighed last week. He's lost a total of 80 pounds. He now weighs what he weighed when we were dating!!!

I’m sure he wants the peg tube out. Hopefully he will keep up with his eating and once he gets rid of it, he won’t ever have to have another.

@MarieCoyle No, it's not. George wants things to go quickly. However, it's likely he'll be driving before his peg tube comes out. Getting him to understand that, is an exercises in patientce. However, that has nothing to do with the stroke. I often have to re-explain things over and over until he gets it because he can get easly frusterated.

Keeping our fingers crossed. It's taking a lot longer than he had hoped. I found it funny. Last month we went to the VA, and when we got into a room, George lifted his shirt and goes 'I want this out'. the nurse obviously couldn't do anything, but I still found it funny. On the plus side, he's getting into the fridge and freezer to poor his own drink, if I don't get to it, first. I've been making it my mission to get up before him so it gets done. Because he doesn't think about the powder I need to put in it.

@kaylachan I know you have to be very vigilant with him, it's good though that he is helping himself and trying to do things. Getting well from a stroke is not a fast thing, or easy. He has come so, so far.

It will be nice if the tube can be out.

Well, he needs to eat a lot more, first and right now he's still refusing more or less when I try.

@kaylachan So, does that mean, the tube needs to stay in?

@paigea Yes. He needs to be weened off. He needs to replace tube feeds with meals, which won't be easy. Prior to his stroke, he ate one meal a day, two maybe once or twice a week when we'd go out.

George is clearly excited on taking it out, and it's pretty much understandable. Hope you are able to sleep well.
