Life's Regrets

As I grow older I look back at my life and I do wonder about some things. Could I have done anything differently, lived my life differently? I just read an article about the 9 regrets older folks have about their lives. The number one was not living life the way we wanted. Living the life others may have wanted us to live. I didn't do that. In fact, my mother, who could be overbearing and overly strict at times, told me several times how proud she was of me and that she wished she had done things more like me. The next one was that old folks feel they may have worked too hard. I think just the opposite. Maybe I could have worked harder and better. My depression and sensitivities about things often made it so I wanted to stay home and call in sick more than I really needed to. The next thing on the list is not expressing how I really felt. I think I may have done that quite a bit. Especially with my last husband. I just got tired of fighting so much and so I fibbed about how I felt at times. Number four is not staying in touch with friends. In one marriage I did that but not the rest of my life. Number five is not taking care of myself. I took pretty good care of myself during my earlier life. Now not so much. Number Six is not taking enough risks. Oh, I took a lot of risks. I could have taken more if I wanted but didn't really. Number Seven is not spending enough time with loved ones. I think we all think we could have done more of that. Number Eight is not being present. Not appreciating the present and dwelling too much on the past. I may have done that a little bit. And, number Nine is not pursuing one's passions. I think I did not do this enough. My writing could have taken a completely different route in my life. I didn't pursue it nearly enough. As you read through this did you find areas you may or may not have done the best or most that you could have? Here is the article URL:

We all have our regrets from life. I wanted to become a doctor but couldn't pursue that dream because of financial strain. I wanted to earn well as a teacher and become financially independent but that didn't happen. I earned a petty amount from teaching throughout my life. Now I am living on a pension and my elder son is supporting me financially sometimes in an emergency. We can just hope for the best now.

I regret for spending so much of energy on who actually doesn't want at all and try fit in where I don't belong.

I'm definitely guilty of several of those things. Letting friends drift out of my life is one. I never should have let that happen.

I think we get busy with other parts of our lives and friends sometimes go by the wayside.
