I bought a little pot of venus flytrap lately. I have searched some information how to grow it well, I even use a plant light to give it some extra "sunshine" Now it's the second day and it is still alive. Hopefully it can grow well for a long time and of course I know it's not so easy.

My friend has one and he feeds it dried worms. They are good plants to keep insects out of your house.

That's very interesting. I wonder whether my Venus flytray will be hungry because nothing to eat

@youless Although they are carnivorous they survive on water and soil alone. But if you want to give them treats a dried worm every 3-5 days would be good.

@youless No the plants if they have enough sunlight and water don't really have to catch bugs, but it is an adaptation to the poor soil in their native habitat. So the extra protein from the bugs helps the plant survive. But if they are a houseplant, so you don't have to worry it.

@youless That is what is important that you want to be responsible for the plant.

I have never had one of those, do you have to water it or just give it flies or something?

It uses a kind of algae plant as the soil which can make it moist. I don't have any flies to "feed" it

Good luck with your plant. I think my two rose bushes are dying.

I think roses need to have a rest and then grow again? I am not so sure.

@youless Some keep going for years but maybe the hybrids aren't so tough.

I have always wanted one of those. I wonder if they are hard to keep alive?

I did some homework online and it is not very easy to keep it alive because some feed and water it so much. They need more sunshine and the moist environment.

@youless yes, I had the feeling it wouldn't be easy. I think some keep them in a terrarium or other enclosed environment.

That's exciting! Venus flytraps are fascinating plants. It sounds like you're giving it the care it needs to thrive. They can be a bit challenging to grow, but with the right conditions, they can live for a long time. Keep up the good work, and hopefully, you'll enjoy your Venus flytrap for years to come!

@youless Venus flytraps can be quite finicky. It’s all about finding that balance of light, water, and soil to keep them thriving.

As long it doesn't ask for blood, I think you are okay. I have friend who got one. I'm not sure hers survived.

In fact there are more kinds of this plant but I like to try this at first and hopefully this will be the "easiest".

I had one of these when I was a child, in Los Angeles. They can close when a fly lands on the "leaf" and after a few days the leaf will open again ready to catch another fly. I have two cats and a dog right now so I think that they would bother the plant too much. They are a protected plant if they are in their native habitat in the swamps of the Carolinas. Buy them from a plant nursery, don't pick them! Have fun watching your plant catch the flies.

I think a dog is OK, but cats are curious and they want to touch anything
