More Work Than Expected

Finishing this set took me more than two weeks of breaks and lunches. The wood was not being very cooperative. I started by making six equal sides as I did with the bud vases I carved earlier. There was a major ugly spot on the wood though; by the time I carved enough of it away, I was closer to a three-sided shape. I barely had enough wood left to fit the recess for the tealight by that time as well. I thought I was going to have to turn it into something else. The larger flat sides looked rather plain to me so I planned to cut eight-pointed stars. After the first four points though I figured it looked great that way so I didn't risk ruining them by going further. After all that I think they turned out terrific. I'm working on another set that looks completely different and is going just about as slowly.

The four-point stars look great. They've turned out really well.

They did indeed. I may use the four-point star elsewhere in the future. They aren't that hard to do.
