Arguing With Alexa

Happy Tuesday Everyone! it's a sunny morning and it's going to be warm. I'm trying hard to resist temptation. I got an email from an online store that I frequent and they have yarn on sale for 60% off with free shipping. The sale is limited to just a few days and I really, really, really am tempted to shop. However, I have more yarn than projects right now so I definitely don't need any. This would definitely be an impulse buy and money I don't need to spend. I don't have much to do today except run a quick vacuum. Figured I'd wait until the weekend to strip my bed and change over to my lighter weight quilt, etc. The past few nights it's been warm and I've had to kick off my comforter. My Alexa is still giving me problems so I'm going to have to unplug it and see if it recycles and work. This is the second day that it said my alarm wasn't set when I know for sure it said that it was set last night when I went to bed. I hate fighting with it. If unplugging doesn't work then I guess I'll have to get a new one. Frustrating. Who ever would have thought that I'd reach a time in my life when I'd be arguing with AI Tonight I'm thinking we just might have a salad with grilled chicken. I love salad with all sorts of goodies thrown in and blue cheese dressing. Easy and perfect for a warm day.

I hate arguing with appliances and other inanimate objects, especially table and chair legs that like to grab my bare toes. How about threatening Alexa with a sledge hammer is she doesn't behave herself?

Chair legs are the worst. I can't even tell you how many times I broke a toe

I wonder if they give problems just to oblige people to replace the device. As they are in full control of a plugged device they can boycott your orders.

@Marilynda1225 You surely know that Amazon employees are listening to what you say to Alexa. Amazon says this is to help improve Alexa’s functionality.... sure!

If my parent's Alexa breaks they will be at their wit's end. They use it everyday for pill reminders and such. I have a back up one here that I may give to them just in case they start to have issues with theirs. I was the one who gave them the one they use now, so I guess I feel some responsibility for it..

Yeah your parents would be up the creek if Alexa didn't work if they use it for pill reminders, etc. Giving them a backup might be a good idea

A had a giant problem with Alexa after the first storm here. The light went out and then came back and Alexa forgot all she knew. Fortunatly, after a long time, Mario came one day to do my garden with one of his sons who had studied computing. He fell in love with me after I made them a mussel´s risotto and fixed Alexa for me. Now I don´t need a watch. I ask Alexa what time it is. Many times I hear myself thanking her.

@marguicha Yeah, you have to watch those electronics in the Advent of storms.

@Marilynda1225 It seems that Alexa has to be unplugged as soon as you see a storm approaching. She is a sensitive girl. My smart TV also disliked the storm, but she fixed herself with no problem after a while. Light bulbs are sturdy though.

That might be my problem. We had a storm that knocked the power out and I think that's when I started having problems.

Just be glad you weren't arguing with the AI that is used to drive cars.

I pray they put the idea of self driving cars away, the AI I'm familiar with is generated by humans and humans make mistakes

Alexa has never interested us. Mike's brother got us one for Christmas and we tried to give it back so they could get their money back and spend it on something they need for their new home. He wouldn't take it; said we might change our mind about it. We won't. I do hope unplugging it will help it reset for you. Mike's mom had to do that to hers after her power was turned off due to a storm a couple of weeks ago. Salads are nice in the summer. We are having homemade veggie soup for dinner.

That might be my problem. We had a power outage a week ago and if I think about it, that's probably when I started having problems.

I was so mad that I'm going to dig out my old fashioned alarm clock. Then I thought how crazy I am to argue with a stupid machine

Arguing with AI be like arguing with a person who is already rooted and fed all the information... let me say rigid, non flexible person or giving lots of options to you

I don’t like Alexa that is why I am not having it. I am using my digital watch and IPhone for reminding me something to do or take.

I'd be tempted by that sale too. Threaten your Alexa with termination! Maybe then she'll cooperate. Your salad sounds good. Ranch on mine please!

I am out of blue cheese dressing right now. We still will have a salad tonight, along with a leftover casserole and some strawberries in yogurt. It is hard not to impulse shop if you find a great deal.

The simplest AI interactions are starting to freak me out. I said “dang” the other day when I stubbed my toe, and my phone, having just set it in the couch said, “Well, that wasn’t nice.” That really weirded me out.

I changed to grocery shopping every other week to cut down on the impulse buying. I like it this way.

Salad with grilled chicken sounds delicious. You can always put the yarn away for another day.
