Hometown Horror: Three shark attacks in one Summer afternoon.

Summer has kicked off to a horrific and bloody start here on the Florida coast. Walton County (the County that we live in) has an app that alerts us of arrests, warrants, weather and then breaking news things. Shark attacks are for sure something that I would consider breaking news. Especially on one of the most visited beaches during one of the busiest months of the year. At around two this afternoon I got an alert that started that a midde-aged-woman was attacked on a portion of the beach by a shark. She had severe injury to her hand/arm and I just read in an update that she had to have her lower arm amputated. She also had severe wounds to her abdomen. About a half hour later, four miles down the beach two teenage girls were victim of another attack. The news story I read a few minutes ago said that they were fifteen and seventeen. One of them had injuries on her arms and legs and is in critical condition. The other teenage girl who was attacked at the same time is said to just have flesh wounds but is in stable condition. All three of them were triaged on the beach and then treated at the hospital. There will be plenty of jokes about this throughout the next few days. It is Florida. This also won't be the last time this happens this summer. I'm sure there will be several more attacks throughout the summer. I did find it a little odd that they were so close together, time and distance. I have a suspicion that it was the same shark that attacked both times. Now I don't think the shark was out for blood, but that's a whole debate for another day. Or at the very least another post. All three of the victims are expected to make a full recovery, even if the one is going to face a whole new set of challenges. The beach flags have been changed to double red flags in all of Walton So that's the excitement of today and summer vacation down here in Floirda. @moffittjc , I saw we keep track of how many shark attacks happen in our state this summer, then at the end of the summer we will come visit you and do a shot for each attack. Deal?? LOL Shark- 3 , Tourists- 0

I think the drinking game for shark attacks is a good idea. Let's do it! So far the score is 3 for sharks, 0 for tourists. How do the tourists score a point? Do they have to attach and bite a shark? Because I'm up for the challenge!

@thislittlepennyearns People will flock to the beaches no matter how many shark attacks there are. People can be stupid or ignorant when it comes to things like that. When I took SCUBA diving lessons years ago, they taught us that if a shark attacks us to punch it in the nose or try to poke its eyes. But I guess biting it would also work too!

@thislittlepennyearns There was a news item today about tourists not being welcome in many parts of Europe - contributing to housing shortages, price increases, etc.

That's funny cuz I just shared something today I think about when you get bit by a shark you bite him back LOL I don't know how you get a score for tourists but I do know that the lady whose arm was amputated they are saying that she's really really lucky that she made it through she's missing big chunks out of her side her legs and thigh her back and I bet you that the two teenagers are back by next spring break doing the same stuff and not even trying to be careful. But you wouldn't catch me anywhere near those beaches right now with the amount of tourists that are here

It's really unexpected that this kind of thing happened. Tourism safety comes first

It's not that unexpected. It's where the sharks live
